looks good in excellence!! congrats! and good work!

Nice going on the feature in Excellence !!
In all the reading of threads here, this was the only thread I've seen where the project brought the attention from a female car buff. Fwiw, .....it's pretty rare for any female to express keen interest in our cars - let alone ask for a ride in one. ...Not likely that will happen again soon. ...:) http://i10.tinypic.com/81ehoa9.jpg ____________________ '82 Targa '80 928 |
Hey Matteo,
after a 'Porsche sabbatical' lasting nearly 8 years due to family, work, house renovation, etc., the article in Excellence and this thread (I just finished reading all 58 pages over the last 3 days!!!) have inspired me to return to my roots and reaffirm my 130% Porsche silliness. I'd already planned to un-mothball my 911 next spring; like you I'd always pictured my 2 daughters in the kiddy seats in the back of a 911 and if I don't hurry, they're going to be too big! Unfortunately, you've put me in a bit of a quandary. My original plans were to put my 911 ('76 911 turned into a SC CS replica) on the road so that I'd have the kids-in-the-back experience while building a 996/7 into something akin to a 997 GT-3 RS for street/track use. On the other hand I've always loved wide-bodied 911's, and your car has got me thinking that this is what I need first. So what to do? Stick with my original plans or turn my 911 into an RSR? Descisions, descisions. I'm writing all this as an extended compliment to you, Aaron, Keith and the guys at Zuffenhaus, the Prof Timmins, and all others involved. I know its been written before, but this is a truly awe inspiring (and generally inspirational!) project. Please give a heads-up on events you plan to attend in the UK or mainland, 'ring trips, etc. so that that line can form for rides... Cheers, Steve |
Good Luck, It looks really good so far. Question for you.
I have a 1966 rsr clone. I currently have 9 and 11 x 17 inch speedlines. I cannot find deep fuchs anywhere. Where did you get yours? Thanks... anyone else, chime in ! Gary |

my wheels are Lindsey Fuchs, 9.5x17 and 11x17. Zuffenhaus and Jeff Alton are developing a 3 piece (hidden bolts) forged modular Fuch wheel. It will be avaliable in 15, 16, 17, 18 diameters with a vast choice sizes. I am not sure of the timetable, but they should be ready before the Summer. And please do post pics of your 66 hot rod! |
Sorry to hear and see about your car. Nice article about the 3.9 RSR. Looks like your off to a good start on getting her back on the road. Keep us updated.

...good so far? Talk about the understatement of the century! |
My Apologies jmz: This car is AMAZING ! Now I have something to shoot for. I am pretty new here and didnt realize there were almost 60 pages to date. I only read through the first few pages when I posted as I was short on time. But now I see the light ! I am thoroughly impressed !
Pics of mine comming soon; unfortunately I didnt do any of the work seen, but plan to take the car one step further. Gary |
and another
When I enter a downhill turning onramp the steering wheel wiggles a bit. Is this common for these wide wheel cars?.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1201558331.jpg
|
I would say no.... you may have a bad wheel bearing or some other issue.
|
Is it always the same corner? Could it be the wide tires following some imperfection in the pavement. If you get the same sensation in lots of corners, then I would agree with Rory that you may have a wheel bearing, ball joint, or some other suspension issue you need to investigate.
|
the shakes
It s on all hard downhill onramps. I should also note that at speeds above 60 the steering wheel wiggles a bit as well. I think I will take it in . I also noticed that the front lug nuts only turn about 7-8 times to tight. I the wheels look right in offset but I think I may need longer studs in the front as well as the other issues. After this is fixed I think this thing should be really nice. The motor and tranny are really strong.
Thanks so far guys ! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1201576643.jpg |
very nice work indeed.

Matteo, congratulations on the completion and article. I read it while I was on leave back in the US, but after reading through ALL of your thread, the twists and turns all the while sustaining wonderful progress I think Excellence gave it a fair shake for their readers.
Your thread is a HUGE reason why I went searching for the bits and pieces I have, the reason I went from doing a simple repaint to what its turning into. Your creation, along with Jack Olsen's beautiful 911 inspired me to accomplish a dream. For that I say thank you. Enjoy your Porsche in good health and great company! |
Reaper
thank you for the nice words. I cannot wait for the Spring as the weather here in the UK has been quite harsh. I just finished remapping the motor for the 3rd time... it never ends ;) |
Matteo,
After re-reading through much of this thread and the more recent responses, I have to say congrats once more. Yours just might be the best short-hood hot-rod I've seen thus far. :) There is just so much so right on the car. I'll be sorry to see the five-lug 17s go. To me, they are just sooooooooooooooooooo right. As to capturing all of the magic on this thread in seven pages, well, I'm not sure that's possible this side of a book, and maybe not even then. This is a different medium, and it sure has its advantages.... pete |

Matteo, I recall from another thread, you were looking into building the front rsr fenders in metal? are you having some built or looking at building a few sets. Or were you just thinking about it at this point. I'm looking at the possibility of this for my project. I posted a thread in the body work section but have had little comment on the idea. Are you moving beyond thinking about it? If you are in fact building some can you P.M. me details on costs if you are thinking of building additional sets?
... As for the Excellence side track, I think the Porsche community is better of with it than without it. I did prefer the days when European Car was VW&Porsche IMHO... I'm a VW guy but haven't picked up that mag since the switch...long long ago. Keith |

And about the 5-lugs... I am rethinking that too. Especially now that Zuffenhaus is bringing out the 15-inch forged Fuchs in 9s and 11s... |

yes I toyed with the idea of going wide with steel 74-RSR front and rear flares. Especially now that the 917 wheels and centerlock hubs are available (well a couple of months). But right now I want to drive and enjoy the car... Maybe in a couple of years. I found a shop herein the UK that would make them for me... a sort of one off though... |
I know you have all seen this about a 1000 times on this thread but... What an AMAZING job. Bar none, the best looking Road and Track creation I have seen yet. All I can say is, Well Done!!!
|
74 RSR would be hot! Especially with that wing...

I think I even prefer the 17s on your car to the possibility of 15s (which I love...), maybe because then it's instantly recognized as something closer to what it is? I dunno. If it were mine, it'd be all maintenance from here. I might delete all the decals save the back one, but then that, too, is merely my aesthetic. And, if that thing is anywhere near as good to drive as it is to look at (Bob sure seemed to think so, but was indeed holding back out of respect for 1) your car, 2) a freshly built, untested car, and 3) a new car to him), then it must be insane. Please be sure to get us some pics of that thing alongside some of the U.K.'s best roads! pete |
John sent me this photo and I hope he does not mind me sharing.
Way to go Matteo, just use it as it was built to be used. Gotta love it.:D:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1207602356.jpg Regards |
Lord, forgive me! I have LUST in my heart. (still) :D

Whatever we'd do if it was ours, this car moved the short hood goalposts and no mistake. Well done Matteo, your outstanding commitment in building this has paid off beautifully, and given hot rodders a car to aspire to ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1207674760.jpg |
Where can I get a pair of those rear deck lid hold-down straps? They look great.
|
|
I got the ones I use on my race car at Pegasus.

Matteo, congrats on the excellent article in 911 & Porsche World this month.
You, sir, are a celebrity! |
couldn't happen to a nicer guy! I will share a little something about our man Matteo with you fellas. When I met Matteo in person, now mind you we'd known each other from the board, but not beyond that, he and his wife, and me and mine were heading off to lunch. So Matteo asks me, 'should we take the Ford GT'? Mind you, the car was brand new, and then he says with keys held out in hand, 'wanna drive'?
Needless to say, I declined. But it speaks to what a great guy he his and how he views his cars as things to be used and enjoyed, not polished and admired. |

Tell me you didn't think HARD before declining! (Having your wife there probably "aided" your decision, LOL.) I'd decline too, but, if he asked twice, or insisted, well, I wouldn't want to be rude or anything, ;). |

But he made up for it by some nice short acceleration runs, man that thing was like being in the millenium falcon going into litespeed!!! |
Congrats Matteo! The Excellence write up is kept for almost daily drooling, the pictures were amazing, I can only imagine the love shown to it by 911 & Porsche World.
|
Teo,
Well done. That is all, just bloody well done. Enjoy. |
