Matt

very cool... a 74 widebody brother fromown under. What colour is it? What style body?

matty74 03-10-2009 01:40 AM

It has a 3.0 in it at the moment, its a 74 with 89 turbo guards and a duck tail.

Link to some pics on my facebook page

I'm doing the engine box suspension/brakes first, body I will do last but have been in 2 minds of either going IROC, or 73 RSR with the body.

I just love the old style cars, I do like the 997 and 993 models but its the vintage stuff that makes me skip a heartbeat over any other car, mind you that GT40 you have pictured is sweet, and I am fond of any of the shelby machines, I'm partial to a mean V8.

Reaper930 03-10-2009 01:48 AM

Well stated Matteo - when all is said and done, its our families, relationships and passions that we have to hold on to.

Even though these cars are the incarnations that represent those passions, the enthusiasm and soul are not limited to the cars themselves.

Matteo - you're going to give me a run for my money for sure! Those stacks are pure sex man, and I wouldn't kick the GT out of bed either :)

johndglynn 03-10-2009 06:11 AM

That is one hell of a driveway at the new house in those GT pics :D

Count me in for a run with this new motor bro, glad it is starting to come good.

It may well be that the blow up was caused by the case.

But in a court of law, in the US, with a US defendant, a professor, against a Euro trash that spent a lot on a motor, took it to Europe and then on the track it is going to be a difficult case to make.

To me it's not worth it. I am a trader in the financial markets. I weigh the odds every day, calculate the possible payouts of every single trade. Balance the risks against the possible rewards.

In this case it's not worth my time, the stress etc.

Timmins will pay one way or another. I am not after him. I just want to drive my car. This has been just another chapter (albeit an unfortunate one).

I think a discussion about repaired cases and how well they hold up in a motor spinning at 8k rpm is a valid one. But maybe it calls for a new thread.

And gentlemen I really sincerely appreciate all your kind words and support. It means a lot.

But do not feel to sorry for me. I have aa wonderful healthy family. I have been blessed by working succesfully for my own company and by having the possibility to go after my dream 911.

It's not as if I was forced to sell the whole thing, is it? I mean I fell on my feet with 9M (if not better than what the previous moter had ever been).

Plus for all the time the 911 was down I was able to drive around in this.... ;)

Life has been good. I am in credit with fortune. Let's look at the bright side!

Well I, for one, feel sorry for you having to put up with driving that thing around for all of these months :D:D

Just joking of course, you have the right attitude and patience of a saint. I applaud your keeping things in perspective. It will all pay off in the end!

I look forward to hearing about the first drive with the new engine!

Matteo,

You need to meet up with Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear fame). He has a Ford GT also. Just don't tell him you have Porsches, he not very found of them.

87coupe 03-11-2009 10:37 PM

I don't think Clarkson kept the GT. I could be wrong but that's what I remember. I know he has a Gallardo.

lateapex911 03-12-2009 12:16 AM

IIRC, he had issue after issue with the GT40. Now, he probably exaggerated them for effect, but yes, I think he's moved onto something else, and I do think he's sweet on Lambos.

And not a huge fan of Porsches. But just gave a German car, the M3, a rave review, and, even said lots of nice things about the Corvette ZR-1 and Caddy V.

911teo 03-12-2009 03:20 AM

Jeremy Clarkson loved the Ford GT. The problems he encountered were with an aftermarket alarm system because HE didn't know how to use it.

Basically the system is a tracker. It comes with a card that you need to keep with yourself when driving. If the car is started without having the card then a signal is sent to the tracking people that will call you to check everything is ok.

The system did not perform flawlessly at the beginning (Clarkson had one of the 1st cars delivered to the UK) and Jeremy is not one of the most patient people.

Having said that he loved the car to bits. All the problems were exagerated to make the show. The Clarkson's car was featured several times on the program. In the spirit of the show they needed to make fun of him.

After the GT he bought a Gallardo Spider (anyboody seen it on the show?) and now he's got himself a Mercedes CLK AMG Black Series.

His hate for the Porsche 911 is also a big exageration. Everybody especially in the UK consider the 911 as the best sports car. Period. Various iterations of the 911 have won the Evo Car of the Year contest most of the time (996 turbo, 996 GT3 RS, 993 turbo, 993 GT3, 997 GT3 RS) with the few defeats going to the Ford GT in 2005, the Ferrari 599 in 2006 and the Nissan GTR in 2009.

So you can imagine how saying you hate the 911 makes you stand out. Plus he's funny about it and sometimes he's right. And he has to balance Hammond, who loves the 911.

Of all the shows on TV, that show ranks in my top three, and it[s a tie. I'm amazed at how they top themselves.
I so wish I could see the entire unedited show, in HD, on time.

matteo, the weather sucks, and it's expensive (but Topgear is a great reason to move to teh island!

A little update... this time is good news...

Last week I drove up to Warrington because Colin had told me they had installed the fuel pressure regulator and he was going to put the car on the dyno for the 1st time....

I brought a video camera and this is it...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w7oIyQUOJGs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w7oIyQUOJGs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Next Colin will play with the trumpet lenghts but also swap my exhaust system with their headers.

I am going to lose the heat but will meet the stringent noise emission limits that all the tracks in the UK are introducing....

When all is finished the estimated numbers will be between 405-415hp and 450-460nm of torque... :D

PS
sorry for the poor quality of the video and especially the editing... 1st time I have done it....

davisriley 03-24-2009 09:51 AM

Sounds and looks great. I would not be able to stand the anticipation. Glad to see things are moving in the right direction. Hopefully this will all be a distant memory when you get to put some miles on her. Good luck.

911 tweaks 03-24-2009 09:55 AM

that is spine tingeling man !!! The hair on the back of my neck twinged... that is making more hp & torque than the previous engine, no??
Congrats Teo!! You are almost there and ready to drive her as she was ment to be driven = how ever you want to drive it WITH OUT worring about past issues cropping up!! You are in great hands with Colin!!
Please post another video of engine and car and anything you can since I cannot get enough of your car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and will probably never be able to afford a build like yours either!! ;-)
Best regards, Bob

AirCooledExcellence 03-24-2009 10:05 AM

Hee hee, when's the 2009 track debut mate?

MrPerkles 03-24-2009 11:13 AM

Well done Matteo it looks and sounds stunning ,I was at Bobs today and thought of you and the car.
You can come to Lemans with us all now its nearly sorted ? :D

Twinny 03-24-2009 03:08 PM

Great Job Teo, Looks like 9M have produced another great motor. You have to come to Le Mans now, It'll be nicely run in by then!

Bravo Teo I am glad you got someone worth a SH!# to work on your motor, Just a note I also got a set of heads for my classic blazer and installed them to correct problems created by a mechanic like your old one and it runs great and near as I can tell I am getting 14-15 MPG out of the 350.

911 tweaks 03-24-2009 05:09 PM

more and more these days we have to take action into OUR OWN HANDS to get the desired outcome to happen...
almost there Teo!!

village idiot 03-24-2009 06:33 PM

Sounds beautiful Teo!

SteveM911 03-25-2009 12:23 AM

Nice one Teo,

When are we going to see you put it on the track then :)

stevemfr 03-25-2009 04:21 AM

VFC - very cool!

Matteo, one question I do have about the whole Timmins thing (and I won't touch the subject anymore after this - promise :-) ): Why didn't Zuffenhaus/Eurowerks build your motor? Capacity? Rep?

I'm working on getting my car ready.. How 'bout a Pelican meet-up at the Ring for some sub 8min laps this summer? :-p

cay-ahe 03-25-2009 05:21 AM

Hey Matteo,

Congratulations!! Looks like you'll be back on track very soon. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

If you remember the car was meant to be back on the road in a few months.

At the time Zuffenhaus/Eurowerks engine building department was booked up for a while.

Plus I need to be honest here Timmins was much cheaper.... We all know it obvioulsy turned out to be so much more expensive.....

Clearly there were some better alternatives, from Zuffenhaus themselves to Peter Dave or Steve@Rennsport.

It was the only aspect where I was "cheap".... and I ended up paying dearly for that...

I guess the old say "you get what you pay for" can really be applied here.

It goes without saying that if I had to do it again I'd wait 6 months but have the Zuffenhaus boys do from the beginning to the end.

CBRacerX 03-30-2009 12:21 PM

Best of luck with "round 2" Matteo. I've had two engines fail that were "professionally" built, and after that I always built own - with one exception (Peter Dawe) that worked out just fine and dandy. You have a great group of 911 specialists "over there" and I am enjoying your reports on them - the video was a nice teaser!

Enjoy,

Chris

Plot looks promising Matteo :D

911teo 04-08-2009 06:28 AM

I just receivd this from Colin at Ninemeister.

It's the latest dyno chart after we decided to swap my exhaust system (headers+mufflers) with the 9M.

The main reason for doing it in my case was the noise level. Most tracks in the UK now have stringent noise limits (105db at 20 inches) and the previous configuration was a little too loud (108db) which meant I needed to lift off when going past the noise beacons...

Anyway the 9M headers also fit perfectly with the rest of the motor, being built with the same philosophy of increasing the velocity of the gasses to increase the torque.

So the headers are now 1.75" vs 1.875" before.

As you can see the torque curve is a lot smoother and the 9m headers eliminated the huge torque dip at 4,700rpm.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1239199956.jpg

The car is now basically ready to be picked up.

Colin is waiting on this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1239200699.jpg

http://www.stackltd.com/st430.html

as he found my beautiful Carrera RSR rev counter failed miserably (and you can see it on the youtube clip) to keep up with the engine (too much internal damping?).

I am on holidays right now... but I am soo excited to go back home now and pick up the car....

wachuko 04-08-2009 06:31 AM

Sweet!! Saw Colin's post in Rennlist. Very happy for you Matteo. You can finally enjoy that awesome car.

I've seen the same, the stock tach is only a more or less 'guideline' for what the engine is actually doing

mpeastend 04-08-2009 06:43 AM

Then since I have a lot of free time on my hands I will try and work her out...

What a beautiful hp line - ahh curve. I do have to admit, I'm just a tad disappointed that the magic 400 was not cracked. You are the role model for my build :)

not that it really matters - just the bragging rights.

Most street cars and street/DE cars will benefit from long intake and exhaust tracks.

Short trumpets give you more torque in the middle but sacrifice some top end power. Long trumpets do the opposite, favouring HP at the high end vs torque in the middle range.

Because the cams currently on the car give enough torque in the middle the long trumpets would be ok in the search of the extra power at the top end.

But we are talking about 3-4hp at the top at the most...

It has become clear to Colin that with these heads and the Motec flexibility we can be a little more daring with the cams....

So the DC-62 will be swapped with the 9M racing cams.... the torque curve will not change much (in fact the peak torque numbers will be exactly the same) but it will trail off less dramatically...... 410-415hp at 7k is the expected number on this dyno...
