Frankenstein of the 911 world!! AWESOME! Clever ideas, too!
Looking forward to the pictures! Doug |
Would it be less expensive to purchase a 997GT3 or a slightly used 996GT3? I'll duck now!

it might have been, but it wouldn't be as unique or cool.

A GT3 (996 or 997) will also probably be faster around a race track and more comfortable. But then why stop at a GT3, why not a Carrera GT, if one has the means ... But to me a GT3 or a CGT would always be just a car, a fantastic car at that but always something standard. For me this 911 will have a soul. Lots of people will have contributed to the realization of it. Aaron, Keith, Steve Timmins are putting the pieces together and thinking about the different solutions, but it's not only them. I got my inspiration form this board. Call it romantic crap but it's the Bills, the Dougs, the Jameses, the Jeffs, the Chrises, Craigs, Danes, Zekes, Tysons, Rattlsnakes, Docs, Noahs, Daves, Waynes etc of this bbs (and there are many many others) that have had an input in it. At the end of the day these cars are more to us than just a way to go from A to B. Any Toyota would be a better proposition if it was only that. I find myself in the fortunate position where the financial aspect can take a back stage. So yeah the GT3 would have been cheaper, faster, more reliable, more prestigeous... but the world is full of GT3s. But enough of this sentimental crap.... I will upload the pics of the 964 floor pan in a few mins ;) |
well said Matteo. everyone is a critic and that is the great thing about this board, they can be!
keep pushing forward and thanks for the help on my exhaust. |
This is the floor pan as it was cut off the 964 donor

This will mean that we'll have to rethink the heating and the shifter controls (well I guess my new Wevo G50 shifter will hit the classifieds session soon). The hand brake controls will also have to be lifted from a 964. Also note how the 964 floor pan is just an evolution of the 911s. You can certainly see the T-bar housing holes. We (well again Keith and Aaron) will use them to line up the pan for welding. And this is the car ready for the surgery http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146619799.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146619832.jpg And the 2 proud surgeons (keith ans aaron in the background) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146619905.jpg |

I totally agree. PS I got the heat tube today. Will ship it tomorrow! |
I was wondering what you were going to do with that 6 speed ...
|
Matteo:
My observation wasn't meant to be critical; it just looks like your project seems to be one of incredible complexity. I could never imagine myself replacing a complete floorboard section of a car. Cheers, j.p. |
JP
believe me I asked myself the same question several times. Maybe all that rubbish above is my way of rationalizing a stupid move. I took no offense at your observation and this was never meant to get this far.... in a way it is all Bill Verburg's fault :p I guess this is just an extreme case of the "whilst you are in there" disease... ;) |
Matteo:
Thank you for sharing your project with us. Mike |

But that said, someday...(a little sparkle in my eye) I will own a 997 GT3. |

Wow I miss a couple of pages and now a 964 pan is being swapped in!
Are you going to add lightness too? Roll cage too? What will it weigh when complete? Keep up the good work!:) |
Wow! Matteo, that is some undertaking!
May I ask, what was the reasoning behind floor pan swap? Good luck with your project! |
The goal for the weigh is 2,200-2,300. The steel widebody, big brakes and big wheels/tires combo are somewhat of a penalty. The rest is as bare as it can be.
We are going to have a custom made bolt in roll bar (I still want to retain the back seats for my 2 little girls to ride in it). The main reason for the 964 floor pan is the 6-speed G50/31 transmission. There were a couple of options avaliable but Keith and Aaron felt that swapping the floor pan was the cleanest solution. Thanks for the kind words. The '74 tub has been cut open. Welding the new floor will begin tomorrow or Thursday. Pics to come soon! |
This is not a project I would want to total up - but hats off to you for tackling it. Just don;t kill that money tree,

I like your attitude, and applaud your pursuit of the goal while not constantly talking to your accountant! |
