I really like the way they are fabricating and modifying Matteo's rear chassis for the oil lines. I copied Patrick Motorsports in redoing my rear lines (picture below). I think it gains almost as much room, but is not as clean as Matteo's will turn out.
This is another example of superior solutions built into his car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152300003.jpg |
I had the same tires on my old 88 and had no problems.
I think it's due to the fact that we moved the oil tank forward. I had no issue with turbo rear flares, carrera trailing arms and 1/4 spacer. I guess your Lindsey will have a diff offset because of the turbo arms Also Doc is the man. I would trust him 100% (as I trust Keith and Aaron at Zuffenhaus). I am learning a lot through this built, I will give you a more definitive answer after I spoke to Keith (or he might just reply to the thread himself). |
Jim Calzia used the 944 wiper motor on his car -- it's one of the lightest known. He prob. put the wt. savings into his table - posted link on Early 911S bbs.
How long did it take to move the oil tank to the forward position? Got any more pics of the steps in doing it? |
Yes, I will post some during the weekend. I have more at the office... so it'll be Monday morning for those...
|
these are what my dreams look like.............................................. ....

Thanks Len for the kind words....
Here are some more pics of the oil tank relocation... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384192.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384203.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384215.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384229.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384241.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152384255.jpg I think this is it. If there is anything in particular that you wanted to see just tell me and I will ask Keith to shoot some more.... |
Im not a religious man to be honest, but I found this online, by accident, but I think it applies quite well...

Curious to see the oil line hookups to/from the cooler when you get there!
|
Luckily, I have never seen my neighbor naked, but I definitely do NOT covet his ass.
|
OK, this car is just getting silly now. I mean that in the nicest possible way.
I am really envious. I am certain this will be one of the coolest of these new "super-car" 911s being built these days. |
Thx for the pics - lokking fwd to the Monday ones.
If you have an estimate of the # hours it took to do the complete oil tank relocation, including blocking off the old holes, I'd like to see it... |
Some more pics of the Oil Tank relocation

And on its way to get the powder coating done....
Again it will be Mexico Blue. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152738129.jpg All in all it's been a long journey. I am really pleased with the results so far. The guys at Zuffenhaus are incredible. They not only have fantastic welding and fabricating skills but I love the fact that they came out with innovative and elegant solutions to the different problems we had. Apart from the obvious floor swap and G50-31 conversion I am really happy with all the other things done like lowering the seat rails, the oil cooling ducts, the easily removable custom made roll bar, the front tower camber towers and brace, the oil tank relocation... With Keith and Aaron we have been talking about a lot of other neat little things that are going to be incorporated into the final project... So stay tuned. Now it's off to the oven (10 days), then to the bodyshop for painting and overall finish and then back to Zuffenhaus for the re-assembly. Timmins is working of finishing the engine. We should be ready for the Fall track season...!!!! :D |
After all this, I would have suggested placing the chassis on a frame jig just to confirm everything to be hung is where it should be. But great job nevertheless. Please do keep us informed.

Looking great!
Is the tub and exterior (roof, pillars, rear quarters) going to be powder coated and not painted? Seems like that would be very chip resistant, but maybe not as high quality a finish as paint (I'm no expert on powder coating). Just curious what is being powder coated? This is going to be SWEET! Kudows to Keith and Aaron, too. Doug |

They did at Zuffenhaus... do not have pics though... sorry |
Quote:
can't slip one by you eh? No the exterior will not be powder coated. Basically the car will be baked to polverize all the glue and stuff that is still attached on the tub. Then the powdercoating will applied to the interior, the trunk aerea, the engine bay, the underside and the rear wheel wells. The front fender will not be baked but instead media blasted. The exterior will be then painted with Glasurit 55 with the original Mexico Blue formula (the powder coating will be done with a matched by sample color) at a different body shop. |

You really had those boys working overtime, didn't you?! I can't imagine many other shops could turn out a custom project like this so quickly. |

You should see some of the their other works... Next time I go I will take some pics of a fab 73 RSR clone they finished before mine. Having said that I feel fortunate these guys are just around the corner... |
Matteo, I'm can't stand the wait! Whats the latest!
|
Well
the tub should be coming back from the coater by the end of this week. Other body parts (namely the front fenders and hood) have been baked, washed and sanblasted. They also will be e-coated by the end of the week. Then the car is going to be taken to the body-shop. There they will do the finishing touches to the body (there are a couple of rough spots on the rear fenders) and then spray the outside. After that (say 2 weeks ?!?) it's time to put it all back together... In the meanwhile Dr Timmins sent me a couple of pics of the finished engine... He's waiting on the fan... I had it powder coated Mexico Blue... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153942946.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153942983.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153943022.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153943116.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153943201.jpg |
Drool - I have to go check that engine out!
|
Sorry, what headers are those?
|
Matteo.. it looks awsome .
I am also sticking with the stock 993 distributer how do you use the motec with the stock distributer? would a cranck sensor be better? Also what are your plans for getting air to the heat-exchagers? |
Quote:
those are 1-7/8" Instant-G headers (http://www.instant-g.com/Products/Exhausts/Instant-G36/index.html). |
Quote:
For the heat Dr Timmins will build a custom heat distribution tube. It is pretty neat. |
dead sexy.

I'm looking forward to the coated chassis pics. no doubt the engine pics are foreshadowing :-)
Baby steps to the finish! Doug |
Loving that fuel injection !
|
Matteo,
I have been checking daily for the latest update. Thank you for the fix...I needed that. This is one beautiful project...good for you! I think I am not alone in saying that I think that I am as excited to see pics of the powder coated chassis as you probably are! Thank you for sharing this project/journey with us. Brent ______ 70'-911 |
Brent, you shared my pain! I've been following this link w/great anticipation! If this were a soap opera, it would win an Emmy!

Hey guys...

Sweet

Hey, sorry in advance for the repeat question if this is a repeat. But what about that oil filter in place of the on engine cooler? It looks like a cool idea but what about getting to it every month? It looks ominous. And I guess that big front mount will more that make up for the loss of the on engine unit? I'm not questining, just questioning.
|
Quattro
the 993 motor does not have an engine mounted cooler. So that's why you need to be a little creative when u swap one of these into an early tub. The front mounted cooler will be enough (I should hope) to keep the temps down. As per the filter... that is the secondary one, but it is where they are mounted on the 993. So you reach it from underneath... |
I admit I haven't read every post - Just one cooler?
|
A big one. with big cooling ducts.
