Matteo,
With all the interest in your cars I think the only thing for you to do is have a Pelican party when they are both ready for you to show. I know a few of us from the upstate of SC wouldn't mind stopping by and drooling/looking at them. I want to get a spring drive planned for us in the near future too if you would like to bring one of your toys along you are welcome to come on down our way (I don't think any of us would mind having a Ford along). |
So... there are no Italian cars and no British cars?
Also, which car do the kids like the best? (might let you make a graceful transition back to 911s...) _________________________ re hedge fund - try wiki |
My wife is smart and named her car "Valentina" (it's red, it was meant to arrive on Valentines day).
Obviously the girls like Valentina... They have also been waiting for papi's blue Porsche (which is faster than Lightnin McQueen... ;)) for a year. The also like the color of papi new silver Porsche.... The Ford is nice but it's no 911. Period. For an update... the 3.9 will be ready by Easter. It has to... It needs to go to the Treffen (spelling?) parade and then we need to pack it up to ship it to England. Would love to have a lil party down in SC before leaving for England... |
Beautiful family! Nice to have a wife that understand our sickness.

Good thing I gave up envy for Lent.

Just checking to see if there are any more photos of the progress.

All right...
More updates this Thursday... The 3.9 should be ready by the beginning of May... Timmins has being working on the motor and the preliminary numbers are... well let's say that if we make the 2,300 lbs weigh we'll be below the 6lb/hp power to weight ratio figure (edited from 5... I must have been drunk :o). As per a party in Charlotte.. I am sure we can twist Zuffenhaus arm and have them organize a Saturday reception where they can showcase their workmanship (my car is just one of the many projects they are working on....) The Ford is a nice daily driver.. let's leave it at that :D |
The Ford is a nice daily driver.. let's leave it at that
Matteo, we want you to brag on the Ford--we all want details about reckless behavior like blowing Vettes off the road, taking exit ramps at triple the posted speed, stuff like that. I think a lot of us would like rides too in both cars for a comparison--I can get adult diapers from the hospital so no one has an accident. As for the Vette comment, I do know a certain someone in the Concord area with a ZR-1 that would be mortified if he lost to a Ford, I will just tell him it is a GT--he will think Mustang. Actually, I think your 911 would be better then I could remind him how his mighty ZR-1 couldn't keep up with an old Porsh. Let us know about a get together and if you want to take a run in the mountains I know at least five of us would be in from the Upstate. |
So yesterday i went to Zuffenhausen to check out the progress...
Well we made a lot of decisions regarding the little details.... - The rear reflector will be Thom Fitzpatrick own fiberglass piece painted in Mexico blue. As the car will need to be registered in the UK I will need the fog lights. And for a moment we thought we would use an early red reflector and have the fog lights at the side of the PORSCHE script... But then Keith found a period correct light and I like the body color reflector better. - All the seals and windows will be 993 (front windshield and 3/4 windows) or 964 (rear windshield) to acheive a flush mount. - the door panels will be early RSR style and we reconvert the windows to manual (as opposed to the RSA panels) - RSR style carpet (from Appbiz) will be installed wherever it fits (the center tunnel from the 964 will make things a little more difficult). - an alcantara headliner has been made and installed by Aaron. - a custom made quick/released hub for the steering wheel has been made The alcantara liner installed! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174773548.jpg |
Nice!

A rear fog light (on the offside or centre-line of the car) wasn't a requirement for cars first registered before 1981. You don't need front fogs at all to register a car that old - I wouldn't swear to it, but as far as I know, it's not a requirement for modern cars, just an extra. You don't need indicator/flasher repeaters on the side of a car that old either. I forget the cut-off date for that, but your car is older than mine, and my US '77 doesn't have them either. For the UK, you will need to ensure that the front running lights are NOT yellow. Easiest is to fit H4's with the side/parking lights and wire them into the US running light circuit, so only the indicator uses the yellow lenses. You should fit Euro tail/indicator lenses, and probably should take the bulbs out of the US side marker lamp holders front and rear. Although I had to research it carefully ahead of time and correct the tech once or twice (and he went and checked his books, so I know I'm right :-), my WA state car passed inspection (MOT) in England just fine. Being older than 10 years, your car is exempt from SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) when you come to register it, too. They will ask you for date of first registration though, which is kind of awkward if you don't have the original VIN sticker (my car does) or a COA from PNA. Looking at your collection of vehicles, I think insurance will be an, ah, interesting experience for you - especially as most UK insurance companies won't accept US no-claims, and a lot aren't wildly enthusiastic about modified vehicles... I'm using GEICO Overseas; it's quite well-hidden on their website (but it is there) and their regular operators deny that they offer any ex-pat or overseas service at all, but I'm driving a US-registered car as a temporary import in the UK, using an insurance policy underwritten by a UK company - but issued by GEICO, who do recognise my no-claims record from US insurers. Despite what you might get told, you don't need to be military or a US citizen, either. Probably the least of your worries right now with all you've got to take care of before then, but I'll happily provide a whole bunch of bookmarks/phone #'s for a PAX lap in the 3.9 when it's done... :D Lovely car. Cheers, Andy |

Sure there's always something faster. But this is going to be an awesome car, no matter what may or may not be able to beat it. Plus, it is going to be unique and per Matteo's wants and needs. |

this is great news... I will send you a PM... and you are done on a lap of Silversotne, Brands Hatch, Castle Coombe... u name it.... |

I love cars in general, the 911 is just something specia to me. If you have a cool ZR-1 good for you. If you are faster around the track even better. This is is what I wanted a 911 to be. Whether it's faster than a Corvette, a GT2, my Ford GT doesn't really matter. It will always feel special to me.... Still I think this car will run circle around the GT on a race track (leaving LeMans and the Ring aside)... and the GT was the 5th fastest car behind the Enzo, CGT, Pagani Zonda and SLR ( ) on Top Gear. So there are 20 ZR-1s faster than an Enzo... Good for them, Kudos to them. I'd love to see them in person, to admire them. Anyway I plan to put the 911 and GT one against the other on the 18th of May at CMP... Same (crappy) driver, same track, same conditions... We'll see... I am sure it will be fun though. |
Subscribed! I'm thoroughly addicted after reading this wonderful thread from beginning to end - I gotta see the final product (the RSR that is)!
|
I've gone through a bottle of nice Australian wine reading this thread and can't begin to tell everyone what a great enjoyment it has been. Not the wine but the thread. I work in the Philippines and go home twice a year and get to drive my Porsche, and to read about the things you guys do makes me very envious. I am in the process of making a decision of buying a new Porsche but after this thred I think the ultimate would be to bring a older one to a better life. I have been preping my wife for the day ( only cost me a complete upgrade for the kitchen and master bath) when I would buy my next Porsche and am about there. I think I have made my mind up on what direction to take. Oh Yea...

No harm meant to you, we all know your car is sick. |
well we all know drag cars, however i don't think ANYONE here would say they are the fastest cars. The fastest car i can think of would have to be the new audi (diseal) le mans cars....those are fast.
and a tiny note: ferrari's/enzo's are fast cars... easily in the top 1% of all cars. Teo, make sure you have MANY pelicanites there for the comparasion. we will want 30+pics and everyone's biasest opinion.!!!! |
wow, I just stumbled on this build, EPIC!!!!!! Congrats Mateo, I'm along for the ride.
|
Matteo: I read a thing yesterday where there have been some 1/2 shaft failures reported of late on the GT's. It happens under accel. Apparently, not enough for a recall, but there are some spacers that can be installed to fortify them. Just an FYI that was in the Autoweek headlines on Tuesday...

Ed
The halfshatf failure has been beaten up to death on the FordGtforum. It happens randomly and it has been documented for less than 1% of the cars. I do have the "upgraded" kits (one from Ford, one better from Accufab) in my car, together with a AAA card in my wallet... If it happens it will be fixed... I don't worry abt it... |
Scott thanks for the thumbs up on the 3.9....
A couple of updates... (pics will be coming on Friday) - Aaron finished applying the Alcantara to the interiors. Basically all the roof liner, A-pillars, B-pillars and C pillars are covered in the balck material. It looks awesome. Classy, luxurious and yet very sporty. We are debating wether to use Alcantara to cover the center tunnel, or leave the metal (remember it is powder coated in Mexico Blue) exposed... - The 993 windows have been applied. Again great job as these mount flush to the body. I love the contrast the black seals make with the Mexico Blue paint. - I have nearly decided on the second set of wheels. As you might know I am going with centerlocks and 15" RSR forged replica wheels. For the track though I am going to use a 17" wheel. I went back and forth toying with a lot of different designs... But I think I found the perfect one (thanks to an illustrious member of this board). 956 6 spoke centerlock wheels..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175696331.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175696357.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175696371.jpg More on the wheels' details to come.... |
WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!
how wide are those wheels.........5 miles wide!! you must of widened the tail of your tub by, what, 10 feet???? sooooooooo waaaaaaaaaay beyond coooool...it may be cryo... Bob |
The 956 wheels would be the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae! I cannot wait to see the pics of the progress on this car, it should definitely be an Excellence magazine cover story when it's finished! :)
|
Well those are the original 956 wheels used to make the look-alike.
My wheels will not be as wide. We have decided to go with a 3-piece wheel for the replicas (both RSR and 956) so that I can keep the center in case I opt for the extra wide RSR bodywork in the future... |
Matteo-
I'd say go for the alcantara center tunnel. That's basically what I am doing. I went with black alcantara with a white stitching covered over a carbon fiber mold I made of the center tunnel with hole screws. To take the center tunnel off, all you have to do is unbolt the seats, shifter and e-brake. Probably a little less than a half hour's worth of work, and you wont have to glue your pretty powdercoated tunnel. |
Those 956 are too cool. 3 piece would be convinient but you will lose the hollow spokes, which is probably their coolest feature.
I would leave the tunnel uncovered. |
The hollow spokes are just impossible to replicate... Well with enough cash we can do it... but in all honesty I am pulling back a little here....
|
matteo, r u kidding me. your GT is your daily driver? just awesome.
anyway, i like the wheels. it's almost a keg. not sure why you didn't pick fuchs. |
Those wheels will look amazing, I would probably go with grey or black on the blue....although the silver would look fine.
|
It is a long story about the Fuchs... I do have a set of 17" Lindsey Fuchs in RSR finish that are brand new....
But I decided to go with centerlocks and Fuchs + centerlocks does not look proper... so RSR + 956 is the final decision. |
matteo, i can't wait to see your blue demon. i bet it can keep up with your GT.
p.s. i have an idea. i'll drive the mexico blue demon and you drive the GT. he he he : -) |
Matteo, for track wheels, if you're trying to continue with the weight loss program, look into the Dymag rims. They're Carbon Fiber barrels with Magnessium centers. Also, very nice looking rims! EXTEMELY light weight, I think the 18 x 10's are like 14lbs. available in centerlock or 5 lug. Here's a little thing about the ones that come stock on the Moseler. http://www.dymag.com/index2_e.html
Here's my favorite http://www.dymag.com/Updated%20News%...RBON_MAG_C.jpg http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/a...3&d=1148055005 Here's a couple of cool pix also. http://www.dymag.com/index2_e.html http://www.dymag-usa.com/archives/images/gmg2.jpg |

Callaway sells them for $8000+. Doug |
Looking good Matteo! I'm even more jealous now...I can't follow in your rim/centerlock footsteps just yet...have to sort the engine & tranny first. BTW, any more info on the powerplant? That teaser about less than 5 lbs/hp just won't suffice!
