What can I get for my SC?

Yes, I am drunk as I type this. I am seriously considering getting out of the SC for a while, as insurance, track and storage costs simply outweigh the minimal time I get to drive and enjoy this car. I post this here instead of in the classifieds, as I want a debate and honest opinions. I have thick skin. It kills me to do this, but my street insurance situation only allows me 5k miles per year, which basically allows me about 10 local track events per year, forces me to stay in a hotel instead of driving home each night and just about no street driving. Track insurance ain't cheap either. Even though this car is as well-sorted as they come, I still figure it's running me $800-$1000 per month to own it and I hardly get to drive it. This is not right.

Anyway it's as nice as they get. I have about 6k miles on the top end rebuild (done in my garage by Charlie, aka kstylianos), which included 964 cams, Carrera tensioners, SSI's, B&B dual in/out, new valves, rings, etc. It burns about 1 qt. of Castrol 20/50 per 1600 miles, most of which are track miles. With the Carrera cooler, the hottest it gets on a July track day is about 212 deg. No beating around the bush - I drive this car the way it was meant to be driven - to the track, on the track and home from the track. Still, it's a real looker with super paint, chrome-trim H4's, duck tail, Carrera script, rocker trim removed - all business.

Suspension is fully redone - turbo tie rods, rack spacers, new ball joints, Bilstein Sports, 23/31 hollow t-bars, Sway Away adj. spring plates, poly bushings all around, stock sway bars, Weltmeister strut brace.

NEX seats, G-Force 5-pt. harnesses, harness bar, backdated heat, deleted a/c, Magncore plug wires, blah blah. I have DIY'ed everything but alignments and have a very detailed log book with date, mileage and even oil temps for everything I've touched on it. No car is better maintained than this one - I promise. BTW, it's one of the last SC's ever made and even has a Carrera case.

Ok, let's hear it.

I think back to every time I have sold something I was not using or it was costing me too much, I have regretted it. It looks like the car is awesome so I think that should make it hard to part with. On the upside it looks like you have a great car sitting in the garage. I think in ten years you will kick yourself for selling it. I was walking aroung the wine country classic at infineon raceway in sonoma california yesterday. I think I must have heard a dozen times, "I used to have one of those, if I only knew." Dont be one of those guys. Good luck.

Around 6k but I'll offer 8k because I like your China Pictures.
Seriously, no idea on $ but is a sweet car that should fetch some decent dough. Oh, by the way, 20 bucks for the license plate?

The good part is that I'm in no hurry at all and won't let it go unless the price is right. I'll just keep doing DE's. Whoever buys it will have to give me first crack at buying it back if they ever sell it. The only other car I really miss is my first one - a 1970 BMW 2002. But I was really poor in those days and it would have been far more difficult for me to keep than this one is. Besides, someday I'll move to AZ or NV, where there are a lot of these rust-free old 911's. When the garage and insurance situation are better and the weather and a year-round track season allow me to drive such a car more, I'd get another one.

Hate to see you selling it Rick it is such a nice car.

You should upload a soundtrack of the exhaust, that'll surely add some value to the potential buyer. It sounds menacing!

Good luck on the sale!

Here's a pic I have of it on the track...

I paid 15K for a very similar car. I would say thats about the range. I personally would have paid a little more for your car. I think yours is worth a little more.

Just my opinion and .02¢

Ask more than is being suggested here so far. I would recommend $18k. I've noticed that the prices pelicanites are willing to pay are generally much less than your "normal" customer - this crowd is quite a bit more discerning than your average joe... (also, you may want to sell through another venue to get top $$).

I think the most recent Excellence mag had a market update that included the SC and here's a previous link that may give you a better idea:

What did you pay for your 911sc?

best of luck

It's a very sweet car and RL is totally anal about maintenance. The next owner will really enjoy the hell out of this car.

Nice car. I'd say ask $20k, settle for something in the 17K range.

Without the 964 cams it would be a good starting place for a G class PCA club racer. Need bigger sways and wheels though.

Hmm. Are you sure about that? Have you calibrated your gauge? My car has the same setup with the headlight removed and bucket cut for airflow and I hit 245 after 20 minutes of driving it hard on the track.

(front and rear RSR bumpers and front mounted cooler going in this week)

Cheers,

Jeff

You know, it's weird with oil temps. Plenty of other guys in our local gang have temp issues on similarly cooled cars. I put a new numerical oil temp gauge in about 1.5 yrs. ago and a new oil temp sensor with the rebuild. Maybe it's the cool collar. I have a Carrera cooler with the Elephant Racing fittings, the scoop, I have metal flashing in there to direct the foglight hole air onto the cooler and I have my oil lines exposed. I also have the 964 cam squirters. Pretty sure the temps are accurate. Still I change the oil every other DE. AGain, I am a maint. fanatic about my cars and nothing ever comes close to getting old or worn on my SC before it's replaced.

this is one of those cars that really needs nothing else before you take it out on the track and start flogging it. i know b/c i drove it. as soon as rick finished his session and got out, i jumped in for another 1/2hr of hard lovin'. whether the needle was at 212 or 218, i cannot say, but i do know that it didn't budge at all. middle of the summer. we did 4 sessions like that.

this car is very well set up. feels like a longhood when you drive it. i'm not interested in getting into price-fixing but i know the car personally and can tell you about it. every other sc that's in the 15k range from that other thread, would need something or other that would make it track-worthy. a 'refreshed' cooling system, susp/bushings, worn spindles will make you think it's the bearings but when you replace them you realize nothing changed. we know how much new struts cost... most on pelican realize how a few "while you're in there" add up quickly. this car has it all.

if you want a street car, this one may have "too many" things done to it. if you want a track car, you just get in and drive it.

Thanks for the plug. And yes, those sessions were back to back in hot weather. It was on the track for a full hour that time.

Actually, it could be made back into a somewhat comfortable street ride for not too much money. Smaller t-bars, stock seats and a normal muffler are all it would take to be a daily driver, though it would kill me to see someone do that.

BTW, I rebuilt the calipers last year, it has ATE vented rotors up front, stock rotors in the rear and PF-97 pads all around. It has hand-of-God braking. New wheels bearings in the front too. Rear bearings are sitting in my living room, waiting until it's time to replace the rear rotors, which are in my gun closet.

Rick,

If you *really* want to keep it and continue tracking her but need to trim costs (I KNOW what that's about, believe me), then ditch all insurance on it except liability for that odd time you drive on the street and want to protect your assets. You know the drill: you're going to regret it big time after the sale. Then you'll get the itch again later. You'll then go through modding and getting it all sorted out. And you'll obviously have paid much more than you would have just keeping this beauty. This is NOT saving money in my book. Think about the big picture: if you need to cust costs, there are others ways of trimming the budget and still enjoy having it. Just my opinion, mind you. Best of luck to ya!

Edward

RL, it's a great car, and at the end I hope you decide to keep it. Otherwise I'd hold out for at least $20K, it's well worth that much if not more...

For $20k, I'd sell tomorrow and forfeit my remaining track insurance days. I won't regret doing this, as I enjoyed wrenching on and tracking this car and I know just how to do it all over again when the right situation comes along.

it seems like that very specialized and very expensive insurance is getting to you. i feel the same way about those very lovely wankers like you do.

i'd just drop that and keep bare minimum "normal" insurance... you could probably dial it back a bit if you think de driving will cause more damage...

Realistically, between 15-20- it's a ready to go beast and looks like it's cosmetically good to do as well- if iwere in the market, and, as a studies pelicanite, id pay up to 17 so im sure there's guys who would pay close to 20- patience. there's a lot of dollar in that car and so if they right buyer is there it's worth 20- easy. we all know how easy it is to put 5k or more into a basic daily driver sc or carrera let alone one that's nice and ready for a good flogging. nice 993 too. yeah, real nice.
