What are Fuchs made of?

What is the material of Fuchs? Please be as specific as possible...even to the point of chemical composition.

Based on the prices that some are fetching on eBay, I would say "GOLD"

They are forged aluminum alloy rims that have been anodized with painted centers. As far has what makes up the alloy, that I couldn't tell you.

Wil Ferch already posted the link with the answers. But I'll copy and paste from my previous post:

Years ago, Pelicanite Nick Moss contacted Fuchs directly for an answer to this question.

Q: Can you tell me what aluminium alloy was used in the Fuchs Porsche rims of the 60s and 70s?

A: We used 6082(USA), 3.2315(DIN), AlMgSi1(Type) or FUCHS Designation AS10.62,
.62 indicates Temper Disignation.
Best regards Joachim Boehme

EN AW-6082, 3.2315

typical mechanical properties

Ultimate tensile strength Rm 250 MPa

good welding properties

very good anticorrosion properties

good anodizing properties

good drilling and turning properties

I think a similarly interesting question is how do Fuchs stack up to today's wheels? Are they as good as contemporary wheels, or do the wheels produced today eclipse Fuchs?

I came across this pic on my computer. I must have copied it from a pelican thread a long time ago.

Just quick question on how they make these rims. I know they are forged, but from that pic. there appears to be a step that has been skipped. How does the rest of the rim get made. In that pic. it looks as if just the "petals" are forged from that billet of aluminum. How is the rest of the rim made/attached to the petals? There doesn't appear to be enough metal to be stretched to a full width rim.

I've been watching those auctions, too. I'd say it's made of platinum.

I keep wondering if there's a Fuchs bubble. I've got a set of polished 7's & 8's I'll get rid of one of these days. With my luck the bottom will fall out before then.

Jack....

I'm convinced more and more ( as evidenced by this post and others)...that no one reads responses that point-to links....

...maybe "too much work"....or "please lead me by the hand and point out the answer for me"...

Sheesh.....

No additional material is attached. The whole wheel is made from the single piece.

The photo was originally from Tobias Aichele's book, and is in this post.

It's a drawn metal through progressive dies, with subsequent final form operations and machining.
