Too Many Front end choices. Hep!

I have a narrow body 79 SC Targa in GP White. I want to remove most of the black trim bits so I have started with removing the rear accordians and impact bumper and repalaced it with a Ruf F/G piece. I am ready to do the front and I like the look of the Ruf, the IROC and the C2. The Ruf has a nice shape, but it looks a little low at the bottom. The IROC looks good , but it does not have a place to put fog lights and the C2 has the brake vents that I like. How about some discussion to help in the decision making process.

The Ruf bumper cap w/o the separate rubber chin won't be too low, w/ the rubber chin it can hit on relatively severe transitions, as seen at many driveways. This is even on a relatively low car. The reason it's not an issue is the deep setback, very close to the wheels.

On a spoiler which has the leading lower edge placed further forward it becomes more of an issue.

I know your car has a ruf front end. Did you look into a C2 or was it always going to a Ruf car? I like the way the line of the C2 flows off the hood into the bumper, but the long single bar in the front opening looses something.

No, I never considered any other front end.

IMO, If you want a perfect front end get a 993 or go back to the '73RS look

Why would you start with a 993. A 73 Rs would work on a SCjust as well wouldn't it

The IROC would look funny without an oil cooler.

The does look nice. what type of smile are you using? I have been told that a C2/4 is a good way to go. Where did you get your F/G?

I plan on removing the bumper shocks and all the mounting hardware and mount the bumper with aluminum. How did you mount yours?

Click on the SC coupe link in my sig and read that thread. I mounted the front bumper reusing the stock fender attachments and front tub attachments.

How close is a 993 front end to matching up w/o mods?

I totally agree! I've always disliked the opening on the 964. On top of that, many tend to deform over time making it look even worse. Just one look at a 993 shows you that someone at Porsche agreed and corrected it.

Speaking of which, I'll bet Bill was simply saying he likes the look of the 993 front end, rather than suggesting you bolt one on to your car. I could be wrong.

I see you have replaced the side marker lights with air ducts. Are they functional and how much work was needed to get the look right.

Thank you. I was wondering about that. You never know what someone has done, though.

it is hard to go wrong with ruf anything

remember he has all sorts of technical facilities in Germany -- ruf doesn't just say 'hey, this looks cool' - they test

RT, the duct that replaces the right side running light forces more air into the oil cooler. Does it work? YES!!! It bolts right in exactly where the light assembly mounted (minimal fuss). As far as the 964 smilie, they are all the same. You can order both parts from Pelican. (Although, they had the part # listed wrong from the illustration they had on the site...just "talk it through" with the rep who takes your order...Maybe they've fixed it by now).
