and early dash transplant (to support new factory 1972 dash lining):
![]() ![]() we will be further backdating the metal dash structure by filling erroneous (or era-incorrect) openings after the car goes to the coaters to get baked and blasted, then phosphate coated for round 2 of fabrication and dry assembly. It will leave this Friday and return next Friday, just in time for our open house on the 13th. Come out and check it out in person!

Moving right along, we are discussing audio direction in earnest -
the current plan is to mount an iPod power/data jack in the flip down ashtray, a carrera windshield for the integrated antennae, a behind-dash FM transmitter for satellite radio, mount thin midrange speakers in the soace above the frame rail section, beside the heater tube openings in the footwells (see photo above) for good directional positioning, run the blaupunkt "box" style subwoofer under one seat, the amplifier under the other, the center speaker upgrade in the dash for center fill, and possibly small tweets mounted at the top corners of the windshield above the headliner (concealed). Problems with this setup include: A - getting FM (unless there is an iPod add-on or similar to iPod device that incorporates FM), B - controlling volume (the iPod will be plugged directly into the amplifier, so we'd like to incorporate some sort of rotary volume control in the dash with a correct Porsche knob- like the gauge illumination control?) C - concealing the footwell and tweeter speaker without interfering with sound quality D - anything and everything else a non-audiophile isn't aware of that would be a problem with this plan of action. Any critiques, comments, suggestions MORE than welcome! The object, of course is to maintain the bare-bones RSR aesthetic. and avoid technological anachronism (at least visually!)

Keith, look at using a 993 windshield and seal. Much cleaner looking and still the antenna.

Super project ...
what about taking new iphone -- mounting or hiding it ... there probably will be software to mimic old-style knob it is ipod it has internet so you can stream FM/AM as you wish it is small ![]() then add NXT flat speaker technology ... put it underneath headliner or wherever you like TVR uses these ... Designed to save space and weight without compromising on performance, the Mini-AFR units are paired with a subwoofer (two in certain vehicle configurations) to create a sound field previously unheard of in a TVR. Because of the very limited space within the Tuscan 2, the speakers had to be tucked away under a shelf – only possible because of the slim depth of the AFR. Conventional speakers simply would not fit. It was a similar case for the T350 and the Sagaris, where the speakers are positioned low in the door panels.Aware that most TVR owners would want to listen to the car’s legendary engine growl, TVR designers wanted an audio system that was discreet and unobtrusive, yet able to play clear, loud sound at high speeds (i.e. typical motorway use) that simply wasn’t possible with conventional loudspeakers. With NXT, they found the solution.

some of the new GPS systems have touchscreen, media playback, some wireless connectivity, etc. They might work like the iPhone idea but provide GPS navi -- though with bluetooth/usb the iPhone will probably be able to plug into a GPS reciever at some point.

Backdating is the way to go. I have a 73 but the issues I have just because it is a 73 are insane.

Instead of the iphone, may i suggest this device to substitute just about everything. Put it on a hidden drawer, or panel...
And i do mean *everything*... ![]() |

great project. as for the ipod thing, the new iphone is 8 gig and has streaming bluetooth (a2dp). you can buy lots of head units that have a bluetooth connection (same a2dp). this will allow wireless connectivity when the iphone is brought into the car, and also allows ease of changing/adding music to the iphone as you wont need to unplug anything. plus its a phone. plus it looks amazing.
