My mods were more aimed at improving function rather than aesthetics, but I'm still happy with the look.
I needed a bit more airflow for cooling, so I ditched the fat US bumperettes to give me space for the license plate as well as some slots right behind the turbo. I also deleted the rubber strip between top of bumper and body to let a bit more air through.
The rear valance also joined my parts collection in the attick.

Wow, this is the most original thing I've seen on Pelican in a long time. Whether you meant to or not it is a very symmetrical and aesthetically smooth. Very clean and seemingly purposeful. My guess would be the mod is more form vs function but then again I don't know much.

Happy to see something new and creative, love it.

Thanks guys.
I just doodled around with some pics in Paint to get an idea of what it might look like. I was originally going for the flat-chested "no boobs" look, but drifted back to the narrow Euro petite boobs instead of those huge fat US mothers!
Once I was happy with the proportions, I marked out the bumper, drilled 1/2" holes at the corner of each slot and jig-sawed between the holes. It's important to leave enough metal to allow the slots to be cleaned up by filing to get nice straight edges. Of course the bumper was off the car for this exercise. It's also handy that the car is grand prix white - makes it easy to respray at home and get a colour match.

Like several others in this thread, I want to make the front and rear bumpers on my '84 less prominent.
On the rear, I will ditch the bumperettes and I am thinking of shaving an inch off the the bumper, allowing me to pull the bumper in without having to modify the exhaust. However, that means I need to shorten the impact tubes an inch. I would like to retain the benefit of an impact tube, rather than fabricating some solid tube replacement.

I have not been able to find a thread that describes how to do this. Are the Euro tubes a solution?
One solution could be to move the impact tube attaching plate at the rear of the bracket back an inch. Has anyone done this?

This is not a track car and I am not trying to reduce weight. I am only doing it for cosmetics.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Seth

nice to see this thread is still alive and kickin'. 2010 was a rough year for me due to my wife's illness and I kind of fell away from the pack for a while. Hope to start playing with my cabriolet again soon.

Glad to see you back and I hope all is well with your wife did you see my latest brainstorm over on the turbo forum thinking of doing a RSR but using duzs fasteners to attach the rear quarters let me know your thoughts on it.

I think I have to adjust them up just a tad but I wont have a place to do that until next week the new house has a drive that is almost a quarter mile long so I am going to park the 911 at one end and my trailblazer at the other and adjust the lights so they are just below the windows the cutoff is that sharp I mean it is like day a line and then night then I will post a pic.

This thread was the catalyst for my bumper restoration / modification.

I documented it in a thread on Rennlist, but it looks like the linkbacks are not enabled over there (??).

A little difficult, perhaps, to tell from the pics but the bumper looks great. Colder than normal weather slowed down the painting part of the project which lasted the whole month of December.

Here are a few pictures:

I drilled the bumper shocks to let out the fluid then pushed them back in. If you move the bumper back towards the body you will also need to cut material off the ends of the bumpers if you still want the bellows to fit and then the front side marker lights will not fit requiring something to fill the space. This is easier to do with the fiberglass bumper blades available from places like Getty.

bumpers

I did the same thing om my rear bumper; drilling the rear shocks and trimmed the ends off the bumpers. The only thing I did different was replacing the old shocks with euro crush tubes that had been sectioned to remove the necessary amount to recess the bumper.

I have not completed the fromt. I have made a set of cut down side plates, the small ones behind the bellows.

All of the examples look great and make the car look better, I make a replacement for the large rear bumper pads which ude the existing holes and can be removed if you care to do so. They also save 14 pounds
