Hey guys, FYI.. I thought my 3.2l has been running pretty good since day one. Well after reading more on the motronic system, I keyed in on the WOT switch and decided to test it with the multimeter; to my surprise it didn't make contact at 80/90% full throttle; nothing. I was able to positioned the sensor clockwise to get a continuity reading at about 85% full throttle. Let me tell you its worth the 5 minuets to check the proper operation of this switch... Big I mean Big power pull from 3500/4000 rpm to red line.
Upon ownership the first sensor I tackled was the o2 and changed that out, second CHT sensor, third DME relay, forth fixed vacuum leaks, fifth adjusted CO and base idle and all seemed pretty damn good. The only two I haven't tested is the speed and reference sensors to date.
So sweet it is!

yes, it was a red never washed, well why bother it was faaaaded-barn find looking car. I thought it was kinda neat, like it has been a daily driver, ridden hard, put away wet for 36 years friend.

I drove in but they turned me around and made me park in "BMW row" (had the m3)

The F1 cars were fun, and I enjoyed Duncan Daytons drive. I couldn't believe that the ST race was so close at the end. Pobst has a knack of finding that line first. Man it was good to be back at the track, but it was way better to be ON it last weekend.

Bob,
Keep a check on the WOT switch because this switch is not a sealed unit (they can be opened easily) and the contacts often become corroded simply from not being used often. I had same issue with a WOT switch not contacting but in my case the contacts where dirty I took the switch apart and sanded it with 1200 grit paper to clean it up.

While your at it check that the Throttle plate fully opens with the gas pedal to the floor, many of these older cars do not. Mine only opened about 85% thus leaving free power on the table. Very simple to check and well worth the effort.

Sal, two years ago I had the air meter and boot off the throttle body to clean under butterfly and air venturi bypass tube for the idle screw, throttle checked out fine 100% open, with pedal to the metal. I assumed the WOT switch was fine. Thanks for the reply, Sal do you have a LM1 or some type of analyzer to check CO?

Bob,
I have a WideBandO2 but not a LM1 it's a TechEdge device see this post for my install details:
Wide Band O2 + data logger for 84-89 Carrera
The issue is that it's hardwired to my DME and the WBO2 sensor is permanently installed and wired to the location under the driver's seat.
If you can get a WideBandO2 sensor installed into the exhaust and the cable can reach to under the Driver's seat then I could swap my DME (with stock chip for your car) into your car. If this is done then one could easily set your CO, it should be set to AFR=14.2 which = 0.8% CO.
The best money I ever spent on my car was the WBO2 monitoring system, it cost me about $250.00 and now is permanently wired to my DME (all details are in the thread above). This setup not only lets me set my base CO but more importantly allows me to record AFRs across the RPM range for different load conditions like WOT, you will see detailed graphs of what can be done in the thread. Look near the end of the thread for my final addition of recording CylHeadTemps as well.

You need decent soldering skills to wire the controller to the DME, I decide to hard wire it to the DME internals rather than cut up the factory harness, but you could wire to the harness instead.

Enough on this thread, I don't want to hi-jack it.

I've talked to that guy a few times. He and his son have a few "ridden hard and put away wet" cars. They like the unrestored cars and intend to leave them "as found". Pretty cool actually in this day of over restored queens. He lives near Millerton.

European Union Auto Car Show

Sunday, June 14th, 10:00-2:00
Herritage Museum and Gardens
Sandwich, Ma

This looks like a neat event. I think Lee and I will take a run down if it is a nice day, do the show, visit museum, and walk the gardens.
Anyone else - We could have a "Breakfast Club", corral area.

Will you keep an eye out?

Greetings all!

Sadly, I am now w/o P-car after the 88 coupe got totaled (no injuries, other than to my pride... ), so I am seeking another and would prefer a local one.

Soooooo, if any of you know of a coupe, 87-89 3.2 or 92+ C2, please reach out...please? hehehe

Seriously, I'd appreciate your help. Feel free to PM me for contact info.

Looks like the weather may actually break by Friday, so have fun!

Phil

Hi Phil,

last week I picked up one of those free AutoTrader mags that you see in the local stores and there was a C2 offered for sale at one of the used car lots on RT6 in the Westport/Dartmouth area. I don't remember which lot is was but it is close to you.

If I find the place I'll let you know.

I have Mikey for the day on Sunday, I'll see if he's interested in going with me. If so, sure, I'd be up for it.

I have a running race in Bridgeport CT at 9AM that day. Sandwich is about 3 hours, so the earliest I could get there would be 12:30 or so. Bummer.

European Union Auto Show 6/14

I sent out an email to "breakfast club" gang and looks like we have about 7-10 guys going so far. Peter Smith, Sandwich, has suggested we meet at his house and drive in together, also trying to set up parking all together at the show, which would be a hoot! I'll post more info as week progresses.
I'll be leaving Duxbury, Ma. at 8:00AM, a few of will meet at the Medical Bldg, 95 Tremont St., rt3A, a little before 8:00.
regards,
Paul

Now that you mentioned it Phil, the car may have been a C4.

I for one wouldn't mind owning an all wheel drive 911

Sooo, 9am (or other time??) at Peter's then? Are we all 'entering' the show for the hell of it, or are we talking parking together in the general parking? I figured better parking in the show than outside of it?

Edit:
Brochure indicates 8am gates open for cars showing...

For those that are interested in meeting at Peter Smiths' we will meet at his place in Sandwich around 8:45. Peter has registration forms that we can fill out at his house, we will leave his place at 9:00 SHARP. The plan is to caravan into the show together. They are going to park all the Breakfast Club Boys together so it should be a good time. For those that don't want to show there car but want to go to show there will be plenty of parking at the Museum. For those that will go straight to Heritage Museum and are going to show just mention that you are with the "Breakfast Club" as they are reserving space for us.
If you need Peters' address in Sandwich please PM me and I'll get back to you.
regards,
Paul
