The showers and clouds burned off early and it turned out to be a bright sunny day for the ride.
Chris and I had a great early run through the "Forest" and beat the bike race. We had 14 cars today, it was nice for the "Breakfast Club" to actually take time for breakfast and it did provide time for catching up. Special thanks for Art for leading us down through some beautiful farm land and over to Horseneck Beach to the SCCA Autox. Great to see everyone today! Anyone take any pics? Paul

A photo I took out the window with phone, not great, but the best I got.
It turned out to be a great day. I wish there were more cars at Horseneck. There used to be a great turnout there, but this was a non-points event so maybe they will restore it to greatness next year. There were a few guys talking about drag racing at the beach, was this organized or just for fun? I'd love to see pics of that, but clearly it happened before the digital age. ![]()

I've heard that line before! Check out this video from that drive taken by Karl O, riding in my car. Paul http://starlightrun.blogspot.com/

bummed I missed this one. My car is still on stands waiting for new shoes after my alternator and rear caliper rebuild projects. Hopefull its all set by this weekend to shakeout the cobwebs.
I'd love to see some pics of cars racing around Horseneck. What a great spot for an autox.

Hey guys, sorry I missed the run also, but I did have lots of fun too.
My brother Michael (M3), Michael Johnson (C4S) and myself (74 Targa) went to the DE at Lime Rock and let it all hang out. Michael Johnson was the star of the day at his first DE, scared to death at first for his car #1 and his life #2 got the hang of it very quickly and was soon beating the pants off of everyone. Grinning from ear to ear he said, "I would have never known my car was capable of such things". Here's a few pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very cool Jack! I wanted to make it up there to watch but as we all do... I owe my soul to the company store.
I'm doing my DE in July with the CVR PCA. Hope to see you guys soon.

Just curious what sort of lap times you were getting at Lime Rock in those cars. (M3, C4S and Targa).

I don't have lap times but if it were a race it would go M3-C4S-74.
The most interesting thing is the different characteristics of each car, we could get around the back section staying pretty close together. My 74 has 22&28 torsions and 22 sways could use some stickier tires but very light car and handles well. The C4S is completely stock, and the M3 has r-compound tires, We all took different lines into each corner, the 74 early braking and powering through, The M3 very late braking and the C4S somewhere in between. High speed corners and front strait the newer technology and HP showed a big difference. My 74 is no slouch with a nicely modified 3.0 and a short geared 915 I could reach about 110 on the front strait having to go into 5th gear while the M3 passed me at 135 at 8,000 rpm's at the top of 4th, and the C4S was close behind the M3. None of us are ready for racing but learng and talking about our cars personalities is a ton of fun. |

Very cool pics - your car looks great. I bet that day was a nice break for you - you deserved it. I'm thinking this is the perfect venue for you and Buck - No Hunters and no Cops. Looks like you had a ball! regards Paul

Thanks. I asked because I did a Skip Barber race clinic there some years ago. I seem to recall our best times were 1:07 or so in the Formula Dodge cars—and wondered how these would compare.

1:07? I think that's not right...I get around Lime Rock in the 3s in a first gen RX-7 with stock engine internals..103 hp. I'd think these cars should be in that area. And i'd guess the Formula Dodges should be closer to a minute.

I'm sure you're right. Just over a minute sounds correct. (This was a few years ago!)
