Wow, nice buy. I might have a picture where you can see it sitting in the Porsche parking lot in Stuttgart...
In Nov. of 87 I went to Germany for the first time for the company I work for. Been there many times since that time.
On a weekend I went to Stuttgart to see where Porsche is. On a parking lot in the back, there was 20 to 30, 959 park side by side.
What a sight... will always remember that day.

I actually had my own moment in a brand new silver 959 in 1988. A very wealthy friend of my (then) step dad bought one for himself and one for his brother! I was 22 years old and as many of us a hardcore Porsche fan since childhood. Having the sudden possibility of not only see and touch a new 959 in the metal was unbelievable. It was a moment to cherish. Would you like to take a ride in her? I think I wet my pants even before entering the car.

He took me for a good hours drive in the country and on the free way. I remember a complete feeling of awe. The accelleration was not of this world. Remember this was in 1988 and the car was brand new so the 3.9 sec quote for 0-100 kmph was probably correct. Turning out on the free way he floored the loud pedal. We were already doing decent speeds, but the darn thing ripped lose the tires and took off like a rocket. Pinned to the back of the seat we past 260 kmph in a blink of an eye. It was and still is and probably will ever be THE car moment of my life. My age, my passion and a brand new 959 is a combination hard to beat.

Sex has never been even close.

Quoting myself. I just remembered, one of the cool tricks I thought so amazing. He showed me, while in the car, how he could change the ride height for different road conditions. I also remember when we got going he said first gear was mostly to get rolling. So we came out 3/4 out of a roundabout in light rain and he geared up to second gear and gave it gas. I was a real rookie and almost **** myself. The tremendous shove in the back, the rear end coming out but almost emediately composing itself, finding it´s track and then the sound of that double turbo 450 bhp on full throttle. Motoring orgasm.

Depending on the usual factors including whether it is a 'comfort' or 'sport' model. The latter are very rare and thus dearer.

When you say it's been "modified", are they federalization mods that you plan to restore or performance tweaks? Oh, have you had a chance to take it on a decent drive in the canyons yet?

It has very few modifications on it right now. GK did the conversion, and they put on a really slick muffler package that places the catalytic converters inside the big muffler (sort of like how they were done on the 1975 914s). It's a very slick solution to the "no cat" problem. GIAC worked with them on the reprogramming of the ECU for CA emissions - the car passed the smog test yesterday with super-clean results! Tony and Grant also saw evidence of the addition of an air pump, but we weren't sure.

So, those two mods will of course have to stay, but in the grand scheme of things, they are relatively minor.

This car was up on eBay, I think a bit more than a year ago. The description was horrible, and this is *not* a car you want to buy without a six-hour inspection by Tony Callas' guys.

I've only driven it 15 miles, but it does feel very much like my old 911SC did - just with different handling, and gobs more of power. There are issues with the first-stage boost controller, so boost is currently limited to 1.5 bar (safe mode), but even then, it has power to spare. The boost controller problem is one of the things that need to be tackled.
