Where is the 959 section of the catalog?
How about "101 projects for your 959"? How much do you have to spend on the website to warrant a ride? ![]() Couldn't think of a better car for you to have Wayne, congrats!

I had the honor of observing and at times even helping out on a 959 light restoration a couple years ago. It truly is a one-of-a-kind Porsche, and just being in the room with one means breathing in the air at one of the high peaks of Porsche history. It is palpable.
You are right about the parts, there is a lot of unique stuff in there! Interestingly, it shares the exact p/n with our '72 911s for the oil door! I sincerely wish you good luck with parts sourcing. Parts that were available from Porsche were just stunning as far as cost. Unfortunately many parts were not available and required some creative thinking - it is not like you can call a salvage yard for an ECU. It was rumored that Canepa has an excellent hoard of parts - but he was apparently completely uncooperative on the phone and refused to sell parts to other mechanics. He's keeping them for his own customer cars. I've got a 70mb folder full of pics that I took during the restoration, I still can't believe I've seen a 959. Much less touched one. Much less turned a wrench on one. Best of luck on this new car - can't wait to hear about the adventure.

Wayne,
That is sorta the way I felt in ’70 when I bought my first 904 – only in a mechanical (not electronic) way. Congratulations on saving a very special car. You are the right guy to do it. See you next week. Best, Grady

Wayne,
Awesome! Never really liked the looks of the 959's but recognize it for what it is. Surprised to hear the 308 was such a pooch. Your story made me crack up. I had just recovered from a life-threatening illness that nearly got me when I decided to started living a few of the goofball dreams. Bought a PROJECT 63 Impala to restore. Wife got tired of the time and money on that project and said to me one day, much like yours: " Just sell all the "junk" cars and parts and buy something you can enjoy driving and not have to keep working on or spend money on. I tricked her and bought a 911. ![]()

Wow - if you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly! Congrats wayne - 1987 is a great year!
They had a 959 apart at my mechanics last year - I walked around it and thought the same thing - what a bunch of cool unique parts. Sort of a psuedo 911 / 964 / GT1 mix. bet you don't see another one sitting at the stop light.

Definitely a dream that will not be achieved by most of us. At least we can live vicariously through you!

High fives Wayne. This must be the car that was an ebay listing a few months ago.? Is this car the Sport or Comfort version? Good luck with the restoration.
What is interesting to me is that just a few days ago, you posted some GT1 porn, and you ended up with a 959. When I saw the GT1 thread, I was reminded of the article in excellence a few months ago where they did a GT1/CGT/959 shootout and basically, as well as I recall, gave the straight dope on the fact that the GT1, pretty as it is, is a race car, really totally unsuitable for the street, and that the 959, even with it's pecadellos and taking into account it's age (20 years!) it is still a nice driver and totally representative of the ne'plus-ultra Porsche Technology, circa 1988, much like the CGT is today. I have a feeling that this car will remain in your stable for many years to come. If you're ever in Portland and just want to drive a stock 88, for comparison purposes, look me up, and I can take you through a twisty bend or two.

Nice score Wayne.
Uh, did they use 2 separate exhaust manifolds on each bank? Looks like one going one direction, and a smaller one going the opposite way to the turbo. http://www.pelicanparts.com/wayne/959/callas/DSC05739.JPG http://www.pelicanparts.com/wayne/959/callas/DSC05737.JPG That is an interesting arrangement. Hmm...Ferrari, Tiffany's, Hawaii, college fund, 959...sounds like life is good, Wayne!
BTW it looks like it could be lowered a little. LOL! What about CA emissions requirements? Seriously, all the best with it, and thanks again for this great BBS!

I am envious!
Now if I can find one, will my wife let me sell all our cars just to get a 959? :-)

What are the current laws on the 959? Can it be driven regularly (not that you would) or is it limited to show/display?
