I find it amazing that so many care so much about this issue. I fixed mine by tossing it in the hopper

Beckmann Technologies in Durham NC rebuilt the cc brain on my '87 for $166 including shipping. Don't know if they're still around but that was 8 years ago and it still works like a champ. The car became a Club Racer so I don't use it all that often now.

ooh, I'm so glad that someone revived this thread.
My CC started oscillating about 500 rpms up and down. Until recently it has worked perfectly. I started by trying to find vacuum leaks. I'm somewhat reluctant to crack open the brain. Does this sound like a problem with the cc module? I'm stoked about finding a couple of places that will rebuild the stock cc module. A new one is stupid expensive. |

Beckmann Technologies is still in business. Their website information details both available services and products. I sent then a detailed request re an '86 speed control unit. I will post any info on a helpful response.

Hey targa florio just make the drive from Oklahoma City to Flagstaff AZ like I did last summer in my 85 Carrera. You will soon discover you really want a CC unit that works. I did 911 miles in one day. You must live in some tiny area back east where driving all the way across the state takes a couple of hours with heavy traffic. Try many hours at 85 MPH and you will see the light.

Pelican Parts has many (like a lot) sources for parts, e.g. cruise control units,
rebuilt/new, so why not give them a call (John/Wayne)? Don't think that the afore mentioned rebuilders help pay for the Pelican Porsche web site, right!

For what its worth: Beckmann Technologies will rebuild/refurbish your control unit for $161.25, which includes return shipping. That price was quoted to me this morning (2/19/08). They may even build/rebuild or otherwise source stand-alone units if you don't want to send yours out. Looks like they specialize in this type of German electronics.
Another "good" option. |

Typical! Use the Pelican web site for info/help and then search the web for the cheapest price. Have to love it!

Hey Loren,
If Pelican was offering rebuilding services in-house for profit, they'd have advertised it. I have bought stuff from Pelican, and they do not have much technical knowledge onhand. Want an example? Try buying a rebuilt distributor from Pelican, Vertex, Performance, Strasse, or anyone. Go ahead. Try. You'll end up buying a new one or sending your old one to a specialty rebuilder, such as we are talking about with the CC module. I'd say that with the exception of Tom X305, who is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and half days on Wednesdays, the Pelican sales staff barely recognizes a Porsche 911 valve cover gasket kit. I have supported Pelican by (1) buying parts, books, chemicals AND (2) posting when I can to help out other 911 owners. Why don't you try doing more of option #2? I like the convenience of ordering from Pelican. I will do so when it makes logical sense. I resent being ordered to buy from Pelican. I happen to like the Beckman option. Doesn't mean Pelican are bad guys. I've recommended that people buy new parts when it's clearly called for based on what I read in the thread. Sometimes it's not practical to buy new. Sometimes people want to buy rebuilt. It's not practical to buy a new brain when you can have your old one fixed. I'm not going to blow $500 out of a sense of charity. I doubt even Wayne would advocate that. |

Ok. I'm a new guy here. Without taking anything away from this terric forum and the obviously wonderful job that Pelican does with its business and supporting this site, could someone please point me to the Forum rules and etiquette provisions where it specifies no discussion of parts, fixes, options etc that do not result in a buy from Pelican? In case that is an "unwritten" rule, what is the threshold amount of $$$ you have to spend at Pelican to entitle you to even think about mentioning options elsewhere--regardless of whether there is one available here? Just asking, cause I missed the part about this not being an open forum but a restricted trade group. Does this mean that we should not even consider non OEM parts?

OK, here is a photo of one.
Looking at the board, I see a couple of quad comparitors as the only ICs. I wonder if the cap/mosfet combination in the lower left is part of the sample and hold circuitry? Sure would be nice to know how this works. ![]() Any EEs out there up to a challenge? Tim

Here is a site that talks a bit about functionality and operation:
http://www.antony-anderson.com/cruise/3-oper.htm Anybody have any idea what function the part immediately above the lower left corner serves? Part number 3300176071 made by Gunther? According to their website, they seem to make some wire wound specialties. Tim

Before y'all box up your brains and send them out to be reworked, it would be wise to determine that your malfunction is systemic to the operation of the brain, and not due to an issue to the vacuum system.

You don't need a schematic to fix 90% of these. Get a low temp soldering iron from radio shack and touch (reflow) all the solder joints.
Almost always cures it, especially the ones that work intermittantly. I've done it twice. Seriously. BTW, you can fix most VDO clocks this way also. |
