ZDDP. I know this was asked previously.

But what is the recommended amount to add to the oil. Exactly how many ounces to the 12 quarts of oil?

Thanx.

It depends of course on what product you are using. EOS? STP? Take a look at the lnengineering.com site...it's all there. If I remember correctly, you need about 0.5 oz of EOS per quart of oil.

it would depend on the oil you are using to begin with....

If you use Swepco 15W40 or BP 20w50 you don't need to add a supplement like EOS.

Adding it to an SM oil that was unfortunately used during the last oil change.

The answer is in the Ultimate Oil Thread or Why We Hate CJ4/SM Oils.

The best advice is to change the oil again. If the current oil does not have 900-1000 ppm Zn/P, there is no point using an additive.

What oil is there now?

You do not need to change it. To an SM oil a bottle of EOS should have you at or above SL rated oil averages. Don't quote me but that is what I have read over and over so unless something recently changed that will work.

You do not want to add any to your oil. Most engine oils have a balenced formula and by adding anything to them may throw off the balence and actually be worse then help. Send me a PM and I'll get ya some of the good stuff - the heck with all this crap from Swepco, Redline, Royal Purple and Amsoil!

No additives,...I expect to select the oil from the get-go that has been blended/balanced, providing the Z/P 's within the package itself....my 2 cents....

And I'm damned glad to see the LubeMaster NOT include BP in the "crap" list..!!!

OK, I'll bite, what's the "good stuff"?

FWIW, I would like to avoid additives as well but I do not think the folks setting the current standards have my needs in mind.

I use Rotella T. Dino 15-40 in the summer and Synthetic 5-40 in the winter. Good package of additives and very clean when you remove the covers and adjust the valves. No consumption issues. Try and find the old CI-4 plus or SL in the 15-40. the new "Triple Protection" may not have as much of the good add pack in it.
