Hey Gents,
I replaced my O2 Sensor Today (BTW, easiest and quickest project ever done, simply jack her up, wheel off, PLACE SAFETY JACK STAND, just need a 22 MM wrench or fully open adjustable wrench, feed through, a small screw driver for the grommet and connect. That's It!) and found in the engine compartment this connector. Actually this is off a member's post. I noticed his has the plastic housing around the tip of the spade connector. Mine did not. ![]() Mine is held on by a bracket then a green wire 3/4 inch long then the spade connector. I did my best to insert it into the new 02 sensor but am worried it may not be connecting. ![]() She is not showing any negative signs but just wondered if I need to rebuild/replace that yellowish connector and wire. Any advise would be greatly appreciated: Part in Question ![]() My Attempt to Photo Shop what I am talking about: ![]()

All I have is a little piece of wire left. That connector broke years ago and I did not want to spend the $$$ on the part.

That connector is also used on other German cars, BMW, Mercedes, and of course Porsche. Possibly a lot of others also. They will and do crumble apart from the engine bay heat over the years. Some look just fine, TILL you touch them. Then they fall apart. A very common problem. Many options for remedies. You can be creative. Good luck!! Tony.

Going to use a 1/2" Mylar spacer from Home Depot to support the wire and spade so it can be inserted. I will cut a slit down the side to insert the wire and crazy glue it to the yellow harness and wrap with heat resistant electrical tape.

When I searched for more information on the connector in order to replace mine (cracked), it appeared that it's part of the rear engine harness and is not identified separately.

I was afraid of that oh well. I made a replacement/mod part. will post pics on how I did it.
So far from Home Depot 1" & 1/2" Nylon Spacer & Crazy Glued together to meet the same length, you can find them at the specialty drawer. 8 pin male connector rubber sleeve 1/2" diameter from a local electronics store to keep it water tight. Liquid electrical tap to keep the wire in place Dremel to cut out 1/8" slot for the wire and notch for the new O2 Sensor to slip lock on to and bevel the edges so it will slip into the new O2 Sensor female connector and slip into the rubber protector sleeve. Tested it (without the green wire and stab, it is on the car) on the old O2 Sensor, fits perfectly and locks in. Next thing is to install it on the green wire and stab stem. Boy, I just have too much time on my hands. Actually it took less the 20 mintues to make the part. 5 minutes at the home depot & electronic specialty store each.

I was fortunate and was able to fish the broken piece out of the female rubber connector, then super glued it together. However I know in the future I'll be revisiting this thread for your wisdom.

While replacing the Head Temp. Sensor in my '86 Carrera I noticed that the OS cable was nasty looking. I just bought the OS cable that is in the attached pic and it looks to be relatively easy to splice the wires and replace.
Has anyone else done this and what should I look for? Thx. Ed C ![]() |

I just purchased a Bosch Universal OS with longer wiring. I'm installing TRE headers and the OEM OS wire is too short.
This kit includes twist connectors which makes splicing the wires very easy and safe. I purchased it from a local parts store here, but I have seen it online as well. The kit is complete and easy to do.

I was thinking of that connector above but I was concerned why the enginners used so much insulation. I was assuming due to that particular wire being the heating wire for the O2 Sensor.
