When did the A/C systems start getting good?
Living in SWFL A/C is a big deal. My old 76' had a crap system. When did the system start being reliable and cold? Late 80's or was it not until the 964's came out?

How does the air differ in the 964 and 993? I thought the set-up was the same, but I'm here to learn.

Nothing wrong with the A/C in a 3.2 if your willing to throw a little $$$ at it. OK, alot of $$$

I had factory a/c in my 89 3.2 recharged with R12 and it's ICE COLD.

993 or you can drop $3K on a Rennaire installed.
964 A/C still mediocre in SoCal summer heat.

The a/c on my Carrera was fairly decent (when charged) for NC (get's pretty hot here too) although I only used it a couple of times and I'm just not an a/c person so I removed it. When I lived in Jax many years ago, I had a brand new Supra that sat in the sun all day, and I thought the a/c sucked on that car too, until I moved back to NC. IMO, my Carrera's stock a/c would probably have been sufficient for Fl. as long as the car didn't bake in the sun all day...if it bakes, I doubt it

After replacing the evaporator, blower fan and compressor along with adding a ProCooler plus a center vent to my '89 I became convinced that it would have also required replacing both condensers (and fans for the rear condenser) to have a chance at acceptable A/C for this part of the country.
Upgrading to a 993 turned out to be a good A/C fix along with the other model improvements. Regards, David

I must live in the cooler part of Greensboro David...the a/c in my truck hasn't been used either but I haven't bothered to remove it to save weight
