Afraid not, Lars. I can't put the glass back in until King of Trim returns my window trim! Late next week, they say.

If 997s are allowed, I'll bring that one on the drive!

The car is an '86 and it has 16's on it. I'll keep those and put an RSR finish on them.

I'm not looking to be 100% period correct. This is just a pseudo-RS-lookalike. I'm keeping my Motronic 3.2 in it and the '86 dash, for instance.

If I can figure out how to make a pre-'74 steering wheel work with the '86 steering shaft/hub, I'll probably do that. For now, I'm going to use my Carrera 4-spoke wheel.

Sorry about that, mean to ask if you would post your pictures on my thread so everyone can see what all the different seats look like in their cars.

I deleted the mistake.

Nice job by the way

Nice work, Dave, and thanks for the tip about Getty Design. I hope she's quickly shaken down and back on the road.

Hi again....finally, after months of waiting around for my window trim to be restored, the project has begun to move forward again.

My trim came back from King of Trim in September (after 4 months) and didn't look right - it wasn't shiny enough. It looks beautiful, but it's more of a matte silver finish than bright polished. K of T agreed, and blamed it on the alloy. He agreed to do it again for free if I sent him ANOTHER set of trim that was bright (not black) originally. So I had to spend another $700 to gather the pieces and send them off again....and wait ANOTHER 4 months! So, it took from May to December to get the stupid trim restored, at a total cost of $2,200. I will NOT be doing business with KofT again. Nor will I be doing business again with my body shop of horrors, Apex.

But forget all that. It's done, it's behind me, and I'll be a lot smarter next time.

The car is in my garage and I just spent the weekend bolting things back on to it. I can see the finish line now.

Got the deck lid grill on, with the engine displacement badge on it.

Oil tank and charcoal canister in. Only problem is, I can't find the wires for the oil level sender! I remember taking them off when I removed the oil tank a year ago, but I can find no trace of them anywhere. My understanding is that the wires come from the right rear taillight harness, but they are not present in my harness. Where did they go??

After a few odds and ends things, it came time to wire up the light boxes and put them on. And the new chrome H4's too! After that, the battery went in and I was very encouraged by the fact that the trunk lights came on immediately. The interior lights worked too, when I opened the door. Then, the real defining moment arrived - turning the key. After quickly downing 4 shots of single malt and pacing around the house for a few minutes, I went out and stuck the key in...and turned it. We have instrument lights!

Although the headlights and parking lights worked, I had to spend about 3 hours troubleshooting the turn signals. Multiple issues here, including burned out bulbs, miswiring, loose sockets, and busted plastic inner lenses. Finally it all worked. Fresh air blower, check. Sunroof, check. Windshield wipers, check. OK to do the final install of H4's and lenses! Starting to look like a car again...

A couple more...

One other note and data point: Myself and others have noted in the past that the lip on the top of the headlight buckets that hold the H4 light assemblies don't usually do a very good job of this because the screw at the bottom of the bucket pushes upward, and so the darn things have a tendency to pop off when you try to snug down the mounting screw. Well, I noted that this lip is more pronounced on the longhood fenders, and so the H4's are much more secure than they were previously on my original '86 fenders. Here's a closeup:

Wow turning out good. I thought my Trim experience was bad but yours beats that. My issue was the amount of time it took to get the parts back (I used someone else). Those last few steps seem to take forever, The turn signals almost never work the first time. Keep the pics coming.

Nice Dave ! What did you decide on decal colors....if any at all ?

I know you mentioned RSR Fuchs.....are you sending them in to Weidman or doing a "scotch brite" special yourself

If you do it yourself, here's a few links that I recently followed when I re-did mine:

Just finished my fuchs...
Scotch Brite on polished fuchs results...

"I" would go white, or for a more subtle look, a lighter shade of blue.....

Thanks for the links Craig. I'll be masking them off and trying it myself. The plan is RSR color, but not textured. I'll use a clear lacquer to make them easier to keep clean. If I screw up or they don't turn out good enough, it's off to Weidman they go!

The RS decals are black. I've had them for almost a year. I considered other colors but I think black will look the best and I'm not likely to ever regret the choice. I'll be putting the stripes on the bumpers over the next week or so, and mounting the bumpers to the car. The side graphics will be one of the very last things I do.

One of the things I needed to figure out was how to mount the original twin horns. I considered using an aftermarket horn that is louder, but I like keeping things original whenever feasible. Problem is, the original brackets that held the horns are not in the car and there's no way to mount them because the bumper shock bracket was removed (which is what the horn bracket was mounted to before). In the longhood cars, the horns are mounted behind the left headlight buckets instead of the right side. But, I have the emissions overflow tank on the left side so I had to fab up some simple L brackets to mount the horns in the original location, in front of the oil cooler under the right fender. The brackets are mounted to the side of the tub. Positioning and orientation were tricky to make sure they didn't hit each other or anything else, and didn't interfere with the front 'S' bumper or any of the headlight and turn signal harnesses. It worked out well and they seem very secure.
