That looks sharp, too, with the smooth anodized Fuchs and gray paint. The combination works well.

Thanks!
It was actually a custom Glasurit mix, closer to the old 356 color Heron Grey. I bought it from a fellow Pelican already painted and pretty much done EXCEPT the interior. Going to do the same seats as you went with and with the light gray squareweave, I think it will look good. Got the Rennline pedal boards and some other brushed aluminum touches here and there and the WEVO shifter in silver.
PO said he weighed it, and it is 2450. Rebuilt 3.2 and G50 with Wong chip. I sold my 993C4S a month before I found this one and I am lovin' it!

Yeah, it looks really close. When I saw the Sport Classic with that subtle stripe down the middle, I started getting ideas......

If I were to build (another) one, it would be really hard to choose a color. I have always loved the blues, especially Mexico. But also Signal Orange and Signal Green. One 356 color that I have never seen on an early 911 is Fjord Green. Probably my all time favorite.

This is my 15th Porsche over the past 43 years, and I think at this point in life I'm ready to let someone else do the work!
Here's one I brought back to life and took it to Parade in Full Concours winning 1st in class and division....Never again!

RKT, what engine is that in your 356? The valve covers look like 4 banger.. or is that one of the "Greek Guy" motor$.. a cut down 911 eng?

Anyway, I'm looking for one of the upright fan set-ups... can't remeber if they have them fpr the 356 motor or just the type IV eng.

Hey I can't keep up, too many projects... see the sig line below.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,
It's a type IV, pumped out to about 2.4, somewhere north of 200HP. The car weighed less than 1700 lbs....so the power to weight ratio was FUN! Used to chase and catch Vettes.

I DID NOT MEAN TO HIJACK THIS THREAD! SORRY!

But one more pic....My wife detailing the engine

When you are crazy enough to go FULL Concours at Parade level competition, you had better. We went through 1000 Q-tips just on the underside alone. The Concours Judges get under the car, some with white gloves, and deduct points for any dust or grease and oil. It comes down to TENTHS of a point to determine a winner.
I can healthfully say we NO LONGER do this kind of insanity. After we won class and division I took it out and drove the snot out of it!

When we build an aircraft engine we take a nice new white bedsheet.

It goes on the build table. Everything that goes into the engine is placed on the table and readied for the build.

You then build the engine and watch as you remove parts from the table. If you find ANY dirt, grease or the like on the bedsheet you find out where it came from and remove it or start over.

Yes its a bit anal but not many places to pull over up in the air.

Thought that was one of those hotted-up type IV engines. That seem to be the hot lick, much easier build on more modern engine. And plenty of access to parts. I had a 2.2 914 once upon a time and it hauled. Thanks for the info, that decision is made.

That's a good wife.. gotta find me one of those. National level concours is nuts within the ranks of most marques. So if you're still married after that, it says a lot! :-)

I've been Concours Chair for a couple of National level event and let me tell you.. it's fun and it ain't fun.. and you're way fried afterwords. Hey, one of those (co-chair) was the East Coast Holiday in Roanoke.. were you there?

Yep.. don't mean to hijack the thread either,

Now back to our regularly scheduled program..

Okay, the rear backdate was about a day's work, and I'm mostly happy with the result. The fiberglass bumper was too wide and I had to pinch it inward, so now have to stress-relieve it so it doesn't take a permanent set. The lower bumper extension braces were below the new bumper, so I made expedient cuts, with the intent of bribing my friend the expert welder to make it more permanent.

For the front, I have accumulated: 2 front '69-73 OE fenders, 2 repro turnsignal assemblies, 1 TRE backdate hood (latch positioned for later mechanism), 1 front 'S' type bumper in fiberglass and bumper seal.

I'm smoothing the hood now in preparation for paint (will paint the backs of the parts off the car and outer surfaces when assembled) and will document the backdate. I know it's been covered before, but maybe I can add some detail in hanging the front bumper...
