Just swap a 3.6 into a 911 and have the best of both worlds.

![]() I've had a 993 and a 964 Turbo, just kept going back to the 78-89 911s.

Hi all, just came across this by chance, I have a 1990 targa C2 and am thinking of upgrading to a SC. The reason is the road tax in Ireland, it costs EUR 1566 to tax the car for the year however to tax a 911 SC from 1979 would be EUR 48. So two related questions (1) Is a 1979 SC just as much fun as a c2 (2) if not ( and this is assuming I can find a pretty good mechanic) could the running gear and electrics from my c2 be transferred to an SC shell?
I heard they redeigned the cars between the SC and the 964 but the chassis looks essentially the same to me. |

I have had a 993, a 965, and a Carrera, but I still always come back to the SC (I am on my 3rd SC). The 3.0 engine is bulletproof and has a shorter stroke, making it more responsive. An SC will be less user friendly to shift than your C2, nothing will probably work as well as your C2 (switches, levers) and it will be more noisy. Some don't like these things, but others as myself find charm, challenge and character in these quirks. Since this is larely user preference, you're just going to out and drive a few SCs for yourself.

I was watching a roadtest by Motorweek on youtube of the 1990 Carrera 4. They got a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds!! You guys that have owned the 964...does this sound plausible. Was the C4 faster off the line than the C2 because of AWD??
