Better to replace or rebuild my 915?
My 79 SC isn't quite stock.. It's got a 77 915 tranny with an 87 3.2. The transmission is starting to getting a little termpermental in a few gears and it probably would be a good winter project to rebuild it... Luckily I know some people with the expertise who've done it quite a few times that I could call on.
I've seen on the classifieds board some 915's for between $1000 - $1500 that have been fixed where needed and am wondering is it better to a) Just pull out my 915 and fix all the syncro's & whatever else it might need? or b) Buy a more up to date 915 that's been rebuilt? Are there any advantages doing one or the other? Thanks Dan

Your 915 will already have the bell housing modifications for the 3.2 flywheel sensors so if you trade out you will need to get a 3.2 915, one already modified for a 3.2, or modify the new unit. OTOH, rebuilding your 915 is a great educational project and leaves you with a unit that you know what is inside.

who knows what was done on an unknown "rebuild/repair". plug it in and find out? you're better off doing yours.
