Question Location of Carrera script on '84 rear deck lid?

Hi All,

Could someone give me the dimension for the factory placement of the Carrera script for the 84 to 89 Carreras? I had my rear deck lid resprayed and am unsure of how far below the grill it is supposed to be placed.

Steve

Happened to me.

I put mine smack in the middle, the factory location is 3/4 of the way up to the grill.

The measurement is exactly 7 5/8 using a flexible tape measure following the contours from the edge of the lid to the bottom of the script as shown. Use some dry erase markers and then find the center

script height

Didn't all cars with the factory tail have the script mounted lower than the non-tail adorned examples? For example, have you ever seen a Carrera with a tail added later and noticed that the script "Carrera" seemed to be too close to the bottom of the tail mount. I submit there are two heights.

I had thought the same thing about the rear wings and the script. Was saving this question for when I got home but I'll take an anwswer now I have a wing and it always seemed to me the script was in the wrong spot. Car is painted now and I'll need to stick the script back on. If the distance is the same for both cars, who votes for placing it a little lower on a winged car? I mean they are our cars but who wants to be a 911 nerd?

Thanks guys for all your replies.

89911, I measured 7 5/8 from the bottom edge as you specified, but it seemed a bit low - some of the pictures show it being 3-4" higher. Does your car have a tail - seems like it from your pic? My car doesn't have a tail.

I would like to place the script where it was originally - my bad for not taking measurements before removing it. I am still looking for the alternate measurement where it is placed 3/4 of the way up to the grill.

KurtV, steve911 what are the measurements of your scripts? Thanks.

Steve

That's it Steve, give me any excuse to go outside in this beautiful (73 degrees) fall day in Missouri to go look at my car. I just measured and using the line as indicated in 89911's pic it is 11 1/4 inches. I think from seeing the shadow on his pic that 89 has a tail.

A guy in my neighborhood has an '85 Carrera with a factory Carrera tail. The car is original, and the script is indeed mounted lower than that of a car without a tail.......

It's just tacked on and can be changed easily. Put it at an angle, upside down, try it around. Have some fun, then decide where you want it.
It's not a Corvette, you don't need to have it perfect.

Why not leave it off if it's not a concours contestant? It would make washing and polishing a lot easier.
