I have driven my 9 in all kinds of nasty rain. I actually was very suprised by how well it handled the rain. how are your tires?

15 M.P.H. I don't think so i put a car back together that hit a guard rail at 40ish and it was no where near as bad as your car is. im thinking that car is more of a parts car by the looks of the door alignment.
im thinking you should buy a C4 less likely to spin out. ed

Dude, glad you are OK.. One the Rain note.. I drove my car in the heart of Katrina!!! Hydroplaned here and there but kept it under control with some pilots on the car.

Think about it; it rains a lot in Germany, the Porsche is German and is designed, built and tested on Germany's roads - both wet and dry. A 911 is as safe as and handles as well or better in the wet than any other car...if it's driven properly.
Sure, the rear weight bias provides for the dreaded pendulum effect that makes the car swap ends if one doesn't understand its dynamics and errs in judgement, and that pendulum effect happens more abruptly and at lower speeds in the wet, but the car is equally capable on wet and dry roads when driven by a capable driver. I'm in SoCal, it doesn't rain much, but I love driving my SC in it when it does (but I'm also terrified of the idiots out there with me who haven't a clue about how to drive in the wet). It's a poor craftsman who blames his tools. ![]()

Believe me, I am in no way denying the fact that it was my fault. I loved the car and had a hell of a week and a half thinking about the accident. There could be many reasons why I f*cked this one up -2nd gear, 5500rpms, wet road, too much throttle on a turn, trying to show off, driving in the rain. My tires are okay, probably about 50% tread. I actually stayed on the throttle when it started to lose grip but when I got too close to the guard rail on the right I hit the brakes and it was all over. We didn't hit the guard rail but swerved pretty hard left and hit the dirt/rock wall then pulled a 180 and hit the big butt booty. One thing I keep going over in my mind was not putting the clutch in when I hit the brakes. The engine runs fine but I hope I have no valve damage from rolling backwards after we pulled a 180. I am 99% sure of no engine damage but I am going to check the valves and probably drop the engine just in case.
By the way, I know the physics very well of these cars and how they drive. I just made a mistake. I was thinking of naming her after Britney Spears. She use to have a body every man wanted to be inside of but now she is trash. HA! I need a Britney sticker like the ones they have on the side of old war planes.

In the rain, with a passenger, 2nd gear, 5500RPM, in a turn, WTF were you thinking?? That girl must like you A LOT! Enough to continue the date after you gave her a back-injury... Don't take this the wrong way but if I had to guess your age after reading this, I would say you're about 17.... On the other hand, we've all F-ed up in some way or another. Hopefully your girl recovers swiftly, back injuries can linger for a long time. I hope the bruise on your ego will remind you to be more careful next time... (And I'm sorry about the car, I hope you feel an appropriate amount of guilt and get her fixed)

I am happy you are reflecting on this. It is wrong to drive that recklessly on the street and it was lucky that no other cars were involved.

I did a DE at Lime Rock Park this past August. The last session was in the rain. A great way of learning the cars, & your capabilities in a controlled environment.

I don't understand this statement at all. We all have had a fender bender at some point. That doesn't mean you give up driving Porsches in the rain or any other particular weather situation - learn to drive them in all types of conditions, and drive within the limitations of your ability, the environment and the car you're in.

I can just imagine. but those canyon roads are pretty desolate right? not a lot of intersections I hope. that is my fear. can't wait to do my first DE day in april at lime rock. have never felt like I could really drive my car as it should be on the roads. just not prudent
