backdate or modify?
take a 71 tub which has already been stripped and it basically perfect condition, cut out a new pan for a later model 6 speed transaxle and 993 tt engine and full coilover all the way around
or "backdate" a 1990 911 964 tub which already has the correct engine and tranny mounting point and suspension mounting points? option 1: ![]() ![]() option 2: ![]() ![]() |

The successful option:
Backdate the ’90 and restore the ’71 to original. Best, Grady

many will
the 964 tub is much stiffer than the early one yet weighs only about 40 lbs. more it is already fitter for coil overs and you can run wider wheels/tires with no mods needed; it is already rustproofed too - moreover, if you don't like the blobby look, you can backdate it to look like an early car if the '71 is an E or an S tub, then it is worth money |

The previous owner of my car took a 1971 911S and made a short hood. I guess now I have no reason to hold back on the modifications but there is just something about the long hood.
I think you should make a 911ST replica with a screaming 2,2 engine and a proper road-racing 911 transaxle. The 1971 is a very special, unique model year. You should celebrate that. ![]() Or backdate the 964. Do not cut the '71. You can fund your project with it.

search for a thread by a shop owner in TN - Nashville, IIRC
his name might have been PorscheDoc or something similar or just search on 964 - this is a 911 site so there aren't a huge # of 964 posts |
