Need to find headliner for sunroof coupe

Need to replace my "80SC headliner w/sunroof. I can find many in black or ivory, but I need one in dark brown with perforated material. There used to be a seller on Fleabay that offered them in many colors in original material (I think they were in New York), but haven't seen a listing by them in a long time. Anyone know of a source?

Uwanna..............

Just an FYI in case you plan on letting someone local to install this.
I talked to George at Automobile Atlanta recently about having my headliner replaced as well (I am deciding white or black for now) and he said he had a guy who was excellent and very reasonably priced. It might be worth a call to see if they still do this in house.

If however, you decide to replace it yourself, I sure would like to give you a hand or see how you do it so I can gain the experience to do my own.

Calm down Steve! I'm not a rookie on this site (been a member longer than you!) and I'm not am idiot. The first place I checked with was Pelican parts! I buy all my new parts from our host if he has them. Also have his books. Please don't make assumptions about what I have and have not done!
A simple "have you checked with our host?" would have been sufficient, instead of your diatribe!! I'm really looking for help, not snide comments. By the way "all caps" in a post is considered impolite, shouting, and poor etiquette. FWIW Just a tip, it's "VOILA" not "WALLLLLLA"!

Pelican get probably still get brown ones. Try typing in these part numbers:

911 555 055 05 4RB for a non-sunroof car, or;

911 555 055 15 4RB or 911 555 055 13 for a car with a sunroof.

They may get superceded to 964- era parts.

Good luck,
JR

Anyway.... headliners aren't that hard to install, just time consuming and the windows have to come out. After that, you need a ton of clips to keep the liner in place while the glue dries. Take your time and try to keep the glue on the back side. The hard part is around the sunroof. wonder if there is a zipper in the new ones?

Javadog,
Thanks for the info. Checked those parts. they are special order Porsche original type parts, and are priced at $300-700 ouch!!. Most headliners run in the low $100s range. Pelicans stock headliners are $129, but only in black or white. I know the other color ones are available, as I've seen them before in the $100 range, but can't seem to find them now. Guess I should have bought one back when I saw them, but thought I'd wait till I was ready for one!

I would consider $300 to be reasonable. If you go with a cheaper alternative, you might want to get a sample of the material first. Not all vinyls are created equal, the perforation patterns can be different, etc.

Sometimes the real part is worth the money.

Good luck,
JR

The headliners our host sells are made by Autobahn Interiors, who do top drawer interiors in So. Cali. They state "Original German Vinyl", and I'm sure Wayne wouldn't sell them if they weren't top drawer stuff. Plus they are $129.

Had a buddy with this dilemma. He ended up dying a white one. Turned out great. I'll see if I can find what he used...IIRC it was the same stuff used to dye vinyl seats.

I'd buy one from Pelican and get on with life, if they had a brown one, but they don't, which was the whole point for starting this thread!

Put in a black one then... it'll look fine.

You can always wallpaper the headliner if you need to.

Hey Sunroof,
thanks for the tip on George Hussey. I'lll check with him on install. I'm not real keen on doing it myself. I wouldn't mind doing the prep of removing the glass and stuff, but after seeing threads on the glueing process, I think I'd rather have a pro do that part.
Do you ever go to the Avenues on the first Sunday? If so I've probably met you. If not, you ought to go, great comraderie! I'll look for a Sepia '73 next time I go

Grant

Hey Smarta** , Read the post again, I never recommended any competitor in the thread, I just asked if anyone else had a source for a product Wayne does not have!! Just don't appreciate being lectured by the likes of you! I just made a simple request for help from the FRIENDLY, HELPFUL, folks on this forum, a description that certainly doesn't apply to you!

clean the headliner with prepsol or pre-cleano (industrial grade naptha).

recline the seats and fill the car with dropcloths.

put a coat of wax on the car but don't wipe it off.

put on a respirator, lie back on the seats, and spray your headliner with brown headliner puff can paint.

wipe the wax off the car, any headliner overspray will go with it.

enjoy your brown headliner.
