Lightbulb Daytime Running Light Addons

Daytime Running Light Addons for 911's

Can anyone post photos of DAYTIME RUNNING Lights that they or others have added to their Porsche 911 car?? . . . or had seen a 911 with this accessory (bad or good looking . . .)!! I know some just run their fog lamps or parking lights as a DRL, but I'm looking to see some aftermarket or custom light(s).

I am considering it but need help. I live in an area (hilly narrow road) where cyclists are riding in droves and oncoming cars tend to slightly cross the divider line around the numerous curves. Being seen is a must. I have HID headlights and turning on the lights burns all the night running bulbs (tail lights, instrument cluster, etc.) inevitably leading to burnout (bulbs that is . . .). And there have been many occasions of leaving the lights on when arriving to my destination.

Thanks to all for this informative FORUM.

Thanks,
Hz

You could try moving the wires from terminal 56 on your head light switch (headlights - only hot when key is on and switch is in the second detent) to pin 75 which is live in any ignition on scenario. I believe that will give you headlights on at any time your key is on. May I suggest that you ensure you have relays for the lights. Like you should do anyway...

I have never seen the need to try this, but I don't immediately see a reason it wouldn't work just fine.

I don't know what car the OP has but on any 911 older than a 964 it would look way off.
To be quite honest, I haven't seen many modern cars that have them fitted from the factory that I like either.
I don't have DTRL's, my lights are always on, during daytime also. Been driving like that for years. Ignition goes on, lights automatically go on too..

Every car/truck in Canada since 1990 has daytime running lights.
I notice that people don't see the 911 (Guards Red) probably because they are looking for DRLs.
What year is your car?

How about parking lamps? Don't the euro H4's have the parking lamp option? You could replace that little 10w bulb with a brighter LED or even HID and wire appropriately to allow daytime use only when the ignition is on. That would be an easily reversible mod and I think it would look pretty cool too.

Here is a simple wiring mod that will allow the use of foglights at the driver's discretion.

Also, I put the yellow euro lenses on our '86 foglights which afford more visibility.

Some models of the 356 and early 911 Bosch H1s had daytime running lights.

Daytime running lights can be activated on a 964 by plugging a 20 A relay into R61.
This turns the fog lights on when the ignition is energized.
Daniel Stern Lighting sells a DRL module that activates the turn signal lights as running lights, like most GM models have.

I was referring to LED lights of course....

If that was a before shot, what are the two white wires for that are with the gray fog wire? The reason I ask, is that I was going to do this mod over the weekend and noticed that I had three wires in with my fog light wire(s) that on a quick glance, I thought were all gray. I also have factory rear fogs.

Hey,,, check this link out -- Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply all the way at the bottom of the page...
I bought his DRL module and installed it on my 87 3.2 Carrera and love the product, It simply runs the front indicators on the blinker light mode of 21W for the bright amber DRL like lots of American cars and SUV's do.. Very high quality product and easy to install all in the front luggage compartment. Daniel Stern has the best lighting products around....CJ

+1, This would be the logical upgrade for that, unless you want to go creative about it.

This is an "after" shot.

The grey wire comes out of a harness.

The two white/yellow wires go to the foglights.

Dont' know about the rear fog light.
