Cyl. temp sensor question.

Getting ready to change out the temp. sensor on my 87 Targa, I have read a few of the post and it appears straight forward. My question, is the special socket needed and if so what is the size? Can I cut one of my own using an old deep socket? Thanks Lenny

Don't need special socket to remove, just cut wire off. Yes, you can slot the side of a socket, same as the tool, to reinstall without damaging the wires.

I remember having the most trouble with the nice rubber wiring gasket, either getting it out or the new one back in. I wasn't able to make a neat job of it in any case. Disappointing for a guy who thinks he is handy mechanically. But no issues with the sensor function.

Did you ohm it for the resistance? That would be your only reason for change.

Bruce, what should the resistance read, I can not find it in the Bentley only the speed sensor and o2.

If the sensor was the older style one with only one wire terminal in the socket, that would be a reason for changing it. Before it fails.

Yes, it still does have only a one wire set up that was my oring. reason for ordering a new one.

14mm deep-well socket,3/8 drive,6 point.

You will have to grind one side down to the base of the socket...Works great!
