Pelican Parts Fuchs availability and price analysis

Greetings Fellow Pelicans! I hope this message has reached you well and you're relaxing with your Porsche this weekend!

I'm hoping I can count on you for support. I'm conducting a study for a project. The goal of which is to determine the probability of being in a Fuchs pricing "bubble". Comments welcomed; however, if you have bought or sold 1 or more Fuchs wheels in the past 5 years I'd be very interested in capturing the specifics of the transaction and aggregating the data with what I have compiled so far. All results will be kept anonymous and aggregated results will only be posted to those participants and possibly other Pelicans on request. In particular, I'd like the following information about the sale or purchase for my database:

1. Sale or purchase
2. Fuchs (real or replica) - I'll be segmenting these and graphing separately.
3. Size, e.g., 15x6;
4. Offset if relevant, e.g., 16x8 951 vs. 911 offset
5. Quantity
6. Condition: poor ("hose reel"), fair, good, excellent, refinished, new
7. Finish: anodized, polished, RSR, chromed
8. Center color: Black, red, etc.
9. Sale Date (critical that it is as accurate and complete as possible)
10. Shipped from location (zip code is fine)
11. Shipped to location (zip code is fine)
12. Asking price for wheels (without shipping)
13. Selling price for wheels (without shipping)
14. Notes outlining anything special about the wheels, e.g., deep six with hearts; RSR; NOS, etc.

I know it's a lot to ask, but you'll have the benefit of the getting a copy of the final report and graphs when the project is complete. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Greg

just sold four 6x16 911 polished Fuchs

a wheel builder like Lindsey Racing will provide a base price on a good 6x16 Fuch wheel that they can trick out

I'll offer these pictures for use of your project, BTW, wheels pictured here are not for sale, sorry.

If you send a set to Harvey to restore, look to spend close to $2K and wait at least 3 months (ended up taking a year on the last set we sent)

951 7&8X16s are a ONE YEAR ONLY wheel, and like the 9X16, have recessed lug holes and will clear larger brakes.

7&8X15s which use the 3 prong center caps and are dated in the early 70s are worth much more than a set of 7&8X15 Fuchs off a 85 944.

The Dates of Fuchs has a lot to do with the difference in value of 2 wheels that other wise look the same... I was having one of my 9X15s resored and was told that the date & number on that wheel caused a bit of a stir in the shop when a few vintage guys stopped by for a weekly Porsche BS session, and weren't happy when he told them I wouldn't sell it..

A 930 Guru pointed out something very interesting years ago, and I have watched and seen that he was pretty much correct, but it is harder to find the 8X16 911 Fuchs than the 9X16s and when looking at wheels that come up for sale, it does seam that 9X16 (Porsche started offering them on the 1987 930s) come up for sale more often than the 8s..

OEM finish in perfect condition are worth the most, commanding about a 25%+ premium over average wheels, while chrome plated ones are the least valuable(someone slap Robert Wood)

Hope this helps you with your project.

OK, I'll add some data:
Purchased
Fuchs -real
15x6 (deep six, non-heart)
5 wheels, matched set dated 4/71
condition very good
centers and rest of wheels painted
purchased in October 2010
purchased from zip 32073
purchased by zip 94526
price paid $2,400 which included shipping
also included 4 clean center caps

I hope that helps. The only other thing I would add is they are going to Weidman's for factory finish refinishing.

I'm sure you could mine a ton of data from the 911 classified forum. That's how I priced the Fuchs I've sold/bought. Otherwise Byron is our resident Fuchs guru. (open to trades?)

Thanks so much for all the responses so far here and via PM. This is great! Exactly what I was hoping to find.

One observation and complication to mining data on the for sale board is that there is a tendency to change the asking price to "SOLD", after a sale. So most historical prices are lost.

Keep the data coming and thanks again!

Best,
Greg

PS - Byron - impressive display of hardware!

Bubble ? They've recently declined a bit from the last 2 years prior . At least the vintage stuff.

And I love this :

"date & number on that wheel caused a bit of a stir in the shop when a few vintage guys stopped by for a weekly Porsche BS session, and weren't happy when he told them I wouldn't sell it.."

Well isn't that just too bad - for them.

With 9X16s being sold again through the dealers, it will be interesting hw it effects the value and if they start offering other sizes, coursse that will no effect Deep "6"s, RSR Fuchs, 7Rs and such..

for average wheels on daily drivers, 7x8x16s = $1,200 and 7x9x16s = $1,500. Obviously pristine newly renifinished sets will bring more.

Rattlesnak, your prices are far and few to find...

Greg~ If your goal is to remain purist and original, carry on...
If you just like the look, get some Rota's in a 17" size. You may begin to understand when you start shopping for tires. The selection for 17's is endless, while the selection for 16's are becoming far and few... You can get a new set of Rota's for $1200 - 7.5/9x17.

This may help you for Fuch part #'s & sizes...

i NEED some 7x16's(2) and some 9 x 16's(2) for my track wheels. dont need to be purdy as all i want is a RS sandblasted look. dont need center caps as these will be strictly for the track.

point me in the right direction here. thanks for your time.

tired as hell switching street tires on to my wheels and then track tires back onto my wheels.

I'm no expert
I like the idea that if I blast into something sideways the Fuchs won't break apart as much as others

If I'm correct does anyone know if the trick custom Fuchs in 17" are just as sturdy?

btw.....
so what's the price paid for those beauties

I think I paid $175/ea for four worn but good 951 T 7x16

finished dirty indoor pics are lousy

Unless you specifically need the 16's to stay in a particular class, save yourself a huge headache and just get some 17's!!! Tire selection is 10 times better!!!!!!!
Fikse, Kodiak, HRE, Forgeline, CCW all make wheels for the 911.
