Cheers Jonathon! Good luck with your project. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of getting to know my car. Thor

Ya it's definitely a blast! Funny thing... We were trying to seperate the trans from the motor and were having a lot of difficulty. Finally yanked it off... I didn't remove the clutch arm/helper spring so we were fighting the spring... doh.
I ordered a whole bunch of goodies... Did you replace any sensors/switches that thread into the case? There is two on the top I think, one on the return tube housing, and one on the actual case. The one on the case for me looks like it might be leaking, was going to just remove it, clean it, tape it and reinstall it. Just curious if you did anything with yours...?

Do you have a copy of the 101 projects book from our host? Wayne addresses all the problem leak areas. I did replace the oil pressure light sender, the thermostat o-ring and the breather mount gasket. These are the common leak spots at the front of the engine and very difficult to access with the motor installed. A tip I read somewhere is to run a bead of JB Weld around the crimp area on the pressure sender where it meets the plastic piece. I would not spend time trying to fix a leaking sender. The sender, gasket and o-ring can be had for around $10. I did not replace the oil pressure or temp senders at the back as the are both easily accessible and showed no sign of leakage. Thor

Yep I have a copy and was planning on doing as much of those 'oil leak fixes' as possible, but wanted to know if it would fly just trying to reseal the sender since I forgot to add it to my order ...

I don't think you want to risk trying to fix it and having it continue to leak. It is difficult to get at in the car working behind the CIS. Thor

Fair enough, I will order more parts... I need rotors/pads still anyways, and I forgot to order a pop-off valve and airbox cover straps! Listen to me, spending my money so easily...
When are you planning to fire it up?

Drop project complete
All back together and complete! I've put almost 500 miles on the car in the last 2 weeks.
Running great, drips no oil, shifts like a dream(thanks Ed!). All in all it was a very rewarding experience. I learned a lot about my car. Next weekend I plan on changing the oil, dropping the valve covers to reset the valves and to check head stud nut torques. Thanks to Pelican and to all that supplied parts, tools, and advice. Next up, spring plate rebush and lower the ride height. Thor ![]() ![]() ![]()
