Finally, back in the game!

Oops, didn't mean to post anything.
Smart phone, stupid user...
Lol!

No actual content Dennis, just the tag.

Then west again on the road to Pacific City and all the one-lane bridges. I drive those roads a couple times per year, although not always in the Porsche.

Finally, back in the game!

So I finally took some time to work on my car a bit this weekend. Friday I played with the Megasquirt tune and I really like the changes I made. More power and better fuel economy if that makes sense...

Today I took the door panels off, stripped the '80's tint off the roll up windows, and installed a set of opening vent windows I bought last year and rebuilt with all new rubber and channel.
Really transformed the look of the car. I love having the vent windows.

I also installed the "winter" hard top for the rainy and cool season here in Oregon.

Here are some pictures of what it looks like now.
Should I strip the targa bar and go with the stainless look? I can take the headlight covers off and show the chrome too.
Give it the look of a '74 Carrera.

Yeah, brushed targa bar, chrome headlight rings, and then I'd ditch the black centers on the Fuchs. I really like the older style finish on my 16" Fuchs

Nice work, about to dive into the vent window conversion as well. Any tips to pass along?

Yep - I vote brushed bar and some added chrome.

My old '73 is my inspiration.
Man I miss that car....

Tdskip,
Tips, take the lower L bracket off. Pull hard with window 1/2 to 3/4 down. Don't drop the washers in the front door channel. Use dum dum sealant around the edge at the top of the door like the factory did.
Take your time aligning everything for a good seal.
I rebuilt my windows with new seals and felt channels. Windows work smooth because of it. No air leaks either at highway speed.

Dum Dum sealant = Black 3M Strip Caulk part number 051135-08578 (Just Google the number)

Hi Dennis,
About the Red seat covers - can you share where did you get them and what was the price?
Is the new color same as original?

I have a 83 sc with same leather color seats .
thanks

timmy2 04-07-2015 03:05 PM

Those seat covers are vinyl and I found the kit on eBay .
About $300 I believe. Just email the eBay seller and ask about color selection. He sent me a sample first. They are close, but not a perfect match to the 35 year old rest of the interior. I am thinking of getting the leather ones from Lseat for the same price as their sample swatch red was a pretty good match.
But, the current vinyl ones are easy to keep clean for now. :)

Dennis, if you ever decide to change that whale to a duck, just let me know. I'd be happy to drive up and pick it up in person. :D

Lol, no, I'll keep the '77 turbo tail clone.
Besides, ducks belong in Eugene...:)

Made any progress on adding ignition? I am looking at your pile of ITB / ignition parts and I was wondering what your plan was to adapt that toothed wheel to your crank pulley?

Honestly, I haven't even looked at it. The car is so reliable and performs so nicely I don't want to screw it up!
I was thinking of changing out the pulley to one pre-made by Clewett or Rothsport if/when I get around to it.

Or maybe I should just sell the ITB's and EDIS stuff for someone else to use...

No need to oops, I just discovered an awesome thread. Dennis where are you at with this? Awesome build, I wish I had half your skills!

timmy2 01-12-2017 07:59 PM

Still just enjoying driving it when I can. It is been so reliable I haven't needed to mess around with it. Same tune for about 4 years now. The last month has had a snow event here in Oregon every week!

I did run a couple of new '67 alternator harnesses I built up to Jeff at Rothsport with it one day just after Christmas, and then chatted with him about ITB's for my car. His shop was closed so he actually had some spare time!
Damn he makes nice stuff in his shop. Beautiful shop too.

Someday I'll get around to treating it to a new paint job, new windshield, installing the rebuilt dash and ITB's..: Until then, I'll just enjoy it as is. :)

NeedSpace 01-12-2017 08:42 PM

Hmm, Dennis needs another project, his p-car is too pretty and reliable.

BTW, absolutely love the red interior. I have since learned that my interior used to be black and was switched to beige at some point. I suppose I could make it red at some point in the future! Would probably only do seats and door cards. Probably make the floor black if I went in that direction. hmmm.

FYI, Saturday my parts go into my engine...hoping to stop those leaks!
