Alternator Ground Wire - Fix or Replace

What do I do with this? Wrap with electrical tape or replace?

Bad insulation doesnt matter a lot on a ground.

Clean it (and wire brush the ends), wrap it in tape, fugettaboutit.

with the gap in the insulation, possible hidden corrosion; I'd replace it with new. why wouldn't you?
These cars can do odd things when it comes to a bad ground.

If it's still flexible, re-use. Or make a new one with minimum size 10. The bigger the wire, the least resistance.

The alternator has one brown ground wire in the harness on the back and the thick wire to the case is an additional ground wire.

This came about with the change to an internal regulator around 1980-81 with a Tech Bulletin from Porsche.

To ensure ground, open the nut on the case, use some Vaseline on the connector and re-tighten. I use either dielectric grease or Vaseline on all electrical connections.
