Window Switch Troubleshoot - SOLVED
Took off driver door panel to install new lock cylindar retainer screw
Have never had any troubles with any door lift switches. Put wires back on switches per Bentley. None of the switches work, driver or passenger side. Checked fuse, looks fine but swapped out anyway, still no luck. Double checked connections are tight. Not sure what to do next. Any ideas? Last edited by wgerow; 08-21-2011 at 06:35 PM.. |

Factory CKT.
oops,
Forgot to post this. Also, there seems to be some conflict between the Bentley v/s the factory CKT. ![]()

Thanks for the info.......still no luck.
Wiring diagram in the back of Bentley shows the supply for the switches coming into 5 for the drivers side switch for the passenger window lift. From 5 is a pig tail up to 3. Anothe pig tail off of 3 appears to be the supply for the drivers side door switch. 4 on both switches is the ground, that is easy. 1 & 2 appear to connect to the lift motor which could be reversed meaning the switch would work backwards but not big deal. Fuses still look fine. It appears both switches need to be wired correctly in order for the drivers window lift to work correctly. Am I missing something? Nothing works. |

Are you getting voltage at the noted locations? Are the other windows working? Rotate the fuse in the clip holders. Gerry ![]()

None of the windows work. They have always worked fine. I disconnected the switches yesterday, drove the car 50 miles, tried to reconnect today. So its not like the car is a "project" and these things have been sitting around.
I need to figure out how to use my meter and test for current. Only other thing I can think of is I killed a relay in my first wiring configuration which I think was probably wrong. Thanks for the help |

+1 get a Voltage reading. Also recheck the fuse, by turning it, it may look fine but you need to insure it is tight.

If they don't work, then it's the fuse...........

This is a 1983 SC that does not have power seats
So I think i figured out how to use the meter. Tried it on a 1.5v battery, looked fine and as I would expect. Then tried it on the battery of the 911, appeared to read approximately 12 v as expected. then I tried it on the red leads for the switches. Nothing. I tried all the double sets of wires on both switches in case there was some switch at birth or by some PO.......nothing. So I am thinking no go on the power supply. Haven't had time to search out the location of the relay, but i see this on the wire diagram. Any ideas where this is located? this is an SC, not a Carrera. I have also double checked the fuse, removed it, turned it, inspected it. Looks fine to me. |

After using up my monthly quota of dumb questions......I have solved it. it was the relay in the fuse box in the luggage compartment. Swapped it with an adjacent relay and everything works fine!! Now I can sleep

I've been reading dozens of threads trying to figure out why my passenger window does not work. Kept buying new switches from host since I could tell from the feel that the ones bought before were failing internally. Finally got everything wired up correctly (what a PITA). Anyway, still no work...could tell I had power to the red/white wire on the pass. switch but since I'm a moron when it comes to electical issues I did not really know what it meant. Note the the driver window switch for the driver's window worked fine and always has. Recalled one of the threads that talked about the wire bundle for these switches and realized I could access it at the top of the pass. door. Reached in there are wiggled it a few times and, voila, working windows...all switches do what they are supposed to do.
Any suggestions on how to do a more permanent fix or should I just leave it alone? Not sure where that wire bundle accessible in the top of the door comes from and goes to....
