What is this? Dangling sender of some sort...
This AM when I stopped for coffee, I noticed a wire/plug hanging from the pass. side of my tranny- all gauges work, car is running fine-
![]() Sorry the pictures are crappy- what is this? I'll jack up the car when I get home and figure out where it goes (although it will be dark by then, thanks Daylight Savings...) |

Looks like the connector for the reverse light that goes on the nose of the tranny. Should be two wires attached to little cylinders inside.

My guess is the same but isn't it on the side?

Starter Wire Boot? Too close to the banana arm to be reverse switch plug

Hard to tell from the pic - looks closer to the trans.
Here is my 915. The reverse light switch cable is the black one on the left with the black sheath. If it were disconnected it has a lot of length if it were to hang free - meaning you could see it. Not sure where the G50 reverse connector plugs in but the rubber part in OP's pic looks exactly like the one plugged into the nose of my 915. I say it's the reverse switch connector. ![]() |

He's got a G50 trans- I can tell by the alloy front crossmember. That means the reverse light switch is on the side of the trans, not the front like the 915. So that's the reverse light wires hanging down. Another giveaway is the rubber boot that has two ears on it to pull on.
You might find that the wires were either snipped (common occurrence when a wrencher doesn't realize the contacts just pull out of the switch body) or the pins weren't pushed in very well when the wires were plugged in. Either way its a simple fix to get your reverse lights working again.

Thanks guys- the reverse light makes sense - Had the front shaft seal replaced (twice, long story) recently, they probably unplugged it, didn't get it on there correctly/tight enough. I'll get under there tonight and take care of it.
