My 911 and I just had the weirdest day.
I go to a car dealer to look for a new family truckster for the wife and kiddies. As I'm lounging against the side of the prospective new kid hauler waiting for the salesman to return, I glance over toward my mint Guards Red C2 and notice a guy unloading a big van about 20 feet south of the drivers door of my car. He's loading up a big, iron-framed, wheeled cart with heavy boxes of some sort. As I'm watching, he turns back toward the van, letting go of the loaded cart, which begins to roll, slowly gathering speed, directly toward my defenseless P-car. I start to run but I can see I'll never make it in time. This will not be a ding, this will be a new body panel. I scream out and the guy runs and lunges for the cart, dragging it to a stop 6 inches from my car's fender. On the way back home I'm stopped at a traffic light. For no reason whatsoever I decide to move into an empty spot one lane over while waiting for the light to change. FIVE SECONDS LATER the space where I was is being occupied by a minivan sliding by after being rammed from behind. Turns out the minivan was struck from behind by some moron in a Suburban. The sounds of popping metal and exploding glass fill the air, and the rammed car misses mine by less than a foot as it passes by. At this point I am freaked and just want to get home, but it begins raining--hard. The wipers are on high speed when, unbelievably, a Honda shoots out from a shopping center parking lot and turns onto the road right in front of me. Full-on ABS saves me from joining the luggage in his trunk, but for the rest of the trip home anytime a car even changes lanes I'm ready to jump out of my skin. I feel like my car had a bulls eye on it today. Hopefully the marksmanship will continue to be a little off! What a bizarre day.... |

Been there before, sort of, but with less occurrences in one day. I know the feeling. Your nerves are on end, can't wait to get out of the car so nothing else could possibly go wrong, and you are in total amazement at what took place. It all seems surreal.

![]() The day I took delivery of my gorgeous, 60k mile immaculate Carrera, my first p-car ever, I was so nervous I couldn't shift very well. Damn 915. On the highway merge, I was still diddling with the gears while about 3 cars passed me. I finally got in gear and continued on. When the ramp merged with traffic, there was a sudden, massive wreck ahead- around 3 cars up. If I hadn't been diddling with the gears I'd have been the lead car in the pileup. As it was I braked, pulled over, and missed everything. I was so freaked I didn't drive it again for like 2 weeks. -d ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |

The guy who sold me my 944 had a pristine 968. I believe it had 14k miles.
On the very day I bought the 944, he started driving his 968. On the very same day, a lady in a caravan backed into the driver's side rear quarter panel... Things happen, glad we have been lucky enough to avoid them. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... My page over1g@hotmail.com Porsche owners Gallery.../My 944 |

It's stories like these that make me hesitate getting that respray!.
Esp. as I do not have a garage!. The few dings and dimples my car has seem to stop people 'keying' it or slamming it with their shopping trolleys!. If it was immaculate like alot of your cars (envy ![]() |

... Had a similar but not quite as nasty situation last week. I was driving home on the freeway and encountered the typical stop and go traffic. As I was sitting there, I instinctively looked in my mirror to see someone in a "beater" Chevy bearing down on me. The scarey part is that I could only see one hand on the wheel and nothing else. The driver was leaning down onto the passenger side floor, poking around for who knows what. I thought the party was over when at the last second, the young gal decided to look up. Thankfully she was able to stop her Porsche killer on time. I could not get home fast enough. Yikes!

Had a few similiar instances happen to me over the weekend-but were cop-related rather than accident-related.
While driving down the freeway, I noticed 2 motorcycle cops merge into traffic from an entrance ramp I had just passed-I wasn't worried, I was right around the speed limit and paying attention. They passed me and contined another mile or so, then took the same exit I was heading for. They were just far enough ahead of me that they had time to quickly pull into their hiding spot right off the exit ramp and pull out the radar guns (just as I passed them..carefully minding the speed limit-but not LOOKING like I was minding the speed limit-you know, just driving casual) to bag speeders ![]() The other instance was at the entrance to a car show (see "Wasted day" topic)-the traffic was so backed up in the left turn lane in one direction, some drivers decided to pull out into the thru-traffic lane, go down a few hundred yards, and make an illegal U-turn accross the median and try to come into the parking lot from the other direction..not a bad idea, for the most part, but it is when several DPS cruisers are sitting there in the shadow of a semi just waiting to pounce on whoever tried it. Good thing I had taken a slightly different route and had come out onto the highway 1/2 a mile futher down, around a corner-they just waved me through ![]() as they busily scribbled tickets for the hapless prey sitting on the shoulder. You know, if people just paid a little more attention.... ![]() ------------------ Clay McGuill '66 912, '97 Jeep Cherokee www.geocities.com/the912guy [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 07-24-2001).] |
