You just peel it back, unfortunate but that is the only way

Those look nice, yet I'm wondering... are they pretty much more for appearance, or do the actually provide needed protection for an area that regularly gets chipped. Asking because I've personally never suffered a rock chip in that area (though I've only had the car for twenty years), but the front bumper & valance do take a beating, and short of a bra there's nothing that can be done for them.

The rear fenders don't start chipping till you've owned the car for at least 21 years lol.

Take a look at 3M Defender (or Plastidip), which you can spray on clear to provide protection from rock chips to your bumper and valence (or hood, headlights, etc.). You can DIY and it literally peels off if/when you need to replace it.

No, you just put it back on and the rubber runner trim will cover up any defects.

Ahhh. So the trick is to make sure you install it below the rubber runner. Then you have a place to peel from.

Exactly , I was concerned when I replaced my torsion bars, but they went back with no trouble at all

What's a good place to get the vinyl? I'm having both rear quarters repainted. My body shop said they got some oem ones for me and it was like 150 bucks. Told them to ship them back. It's just a sticker.. . Has to be a better source for simple vinyl shark fins.

I don't have stone guards but I have just had the rockers off to re&re the rear spring plate/sway bar bushings. All you would have to is to use a razor blade to cut the pattern of the cover out; The pattern of the cover would be very visible.

Did the factory install these stone guards on the SC's and Carrera's? Or is this something the narrow body guys did to have a bit of a turbo look. Trying to decide whether or not to reinstall them after the paint work is complete....

Jamie... 30 mm from guard's rear edge to beginning curve back of fender's lip* is spec (for '79 930 install.) Little soapy water on sticky side will let you slide-position it accurately. Squeegee water and air bubbles out. Will shrink slightly so suggest hiding no less than 3/16" under rocker rubber to be safe.

*Measure is perpendicular to fender's curve---not horizontal to road surface.
