Accelerator Console on Engine Movement?
I am putting together my car and getting ready to put the engine in the car for the first time (woohoo!). I noticed the accelerator console on the engine doesn't move that easily. I was going to pull it off and clean it up but then I wondered if this was intentional. How free should the movement be? I feel like I have to put a decent amount of pressure on this puppy to move it. For instance, I can put the linkage arm (the brass colored piece flat piece) at any position and it'll stay there. If completely freed up, this would fall to the baseplate which it doesn't do and perhaps should? Of course, this is assuming the spring isn't attached.

NB: when all connected, the springs will return it to its resting spot but it feels like it just barely gets it there. I think I am convincing myself that it should be more free.

Just take apart the bellcrank and check the bushings. Clean and lightly lube if they are ok. It appears the spring dangling on the right is not hooked up. It should connect to the bottom of one of the intake runners. Don't mess around with a sticky throttle..it has to be 100% correct.

Cool, you confirmed my suspicions. Thanks. Yes, I didn't hook up that spring yet. When it was as sticky as it was, I didn't bother. Thanks again.

If it is sticky or gritty without the return spring, you may want to consider swapping the metal bushing on the pivot assembly in your pic. While you have the engine out.
Here is my tutorial: THE FIX: Binding Accelerator, NOT Pedal or Bell Housing BUSHINGS, not even @ Tunnel Jim

Draco-
That is awesome, thanks for the reference. I'll take this apart and clean it up and see what the bushing is like. I can't imagine how POed I would be if I had put the engine back in and have to replace this! Although, to be honest, I probably screwed something up so I just assume I'll have to drop the engine shortly after I put it back together. Oh, hey, while I am at it. What is the best way to clean up magnesium parts? I see a little white corrosion on mine...weird, looks like aluminum the way it is corroding.

No Problemo, glad to assist. If you lube it, it will help but eventually will dry out and bind, so I would replace the bushings.
As far as the magnesium oxidation, I know Aluminum Oxide neutralizes the Magnesium but I have no idea where to get it. Just wire brush it and spray some lube on it or wax coating. Jim

I took it apart. My bushings are in good shape just all gunked up with black dirt. I little GUNK and some scauring pad and it now moves very freely. JUst a few more things to do and we can put this puppy in the car!

I finished this a few days ago. It came out very nice. The movement is significantly better, I am glad I looked into it. Thanks for the feedback.
