Help! Wevo shifter install problems!

Guys, I can't seem to be able to remove this effen Nut from the shifter housing assembly....is there a trick to this?!?

looks like it will take a thin wall socket to engage all the way. You could grind the OD of a socket so it fits down in the nut clearance flat. But dont make it so thin it cracks when torquing.

Try to tight the screw on a vice , and move the body to unscrew.

I've proceeded like this , i had the same problem.

I read a hint in one of the short shifter install tech articles on the forum. It said that you should loosen that nut while the shifter housing is still bolted in the car. I did it that way on my car with no problem. You might just bolt the housing back in, instead of trying to hold the housing in a vice or the like.

Yep, exactly what I did... Put in all the bolts, but they only need to be snug, not tight.

uwanna and phiba, yes that worked! I re-installed the housing with the three 6mm allen bolts and it finally gave way! Who the H**l did they hire to torque that nut on....ARNOLD!!!

Maybe it's the length of time the nuts and bolts have been torqued, leading to some kind of metal to metal adhesion? I don't know, but I do know that I have been getting close to getting a hernia getting some loose on my '84 Targa.

According to the book, the transmission fill plug is supposed to be torqued to 17.6 ft-lbs if I remember correctly. Ha! It took a 100+ ft-lbs to get that sucker loose. I actually used a 1/2" torque wrench set on max, because my 1/2" breaker bar only has a 18" handle. And after all that, it didn't need any fluid.

SiberiaDVM, I hear ya! I went to change my gear oil on the 915 last year and had to go out and buy an impact wrench to get that sucker off. I was concerned that with my longer ratchet, I was slowly "stripping" the inside thread of the plug, as I kept "slipping"! Oh, well, taking off wheels for future jobs will be easier, so it's money well spent in the end!
