SC rear valence mod (RSR Style) help

Guy's I'm going to be swapping out my single out Dansk for a dual center RSR type muffler, I understand that I either need to modify (cut) or completely remove the lower rear valence. If someone did this to their SC, any tips or pictures would help me out a lot. I did a search, but most of the pictures with this set up are on earlier 911's.

Regards.

Not mine, but here's one that I got from here a while back. And you will have to modify or remove the rear valence.

Rear valance...

Sabeo, I'm not sure if your rear valance is any different than my "84"? Rather than cutting on my original valance I bought a F/G reproduction from Raly8 that had no cut outs. I did the cut outs myself... I had the muffler mounted and I took a manila file folder and made a pattern of where the pipes came out. I used the valance mounting holes to locate the pattern. I have about 3/8" clearance around the pipes and so far I've had no burning of the paint.

The biggest problem you might get into is removing the philips head bolts from the valance. In my case I had case harden no. 6 mm philips cheese head bolts. I think there's 5-6 mounting bolts, 4 came out easily, but the other 2 had to be hammered on with a coal chisel. The problem is the aluminum bumper and the steel bolts which creates galvanic action.

I'd love to see more of this if you have them Kevin.

Sorry, I don't. I just saw this one day in a thread here somewhere and thought I'd keep a copy of it because of the muffler tips or the bumper. I try to keep interesting pics for later reference. I can't even say which inmate this car belongs to.

There are three things you need to do. The first is to cut the hole (or holes) in the valance for the exhaust tips. The second thing is to extend the left side of the valence to fill in the original muffler hole. The third thing is to modify the left rear quarter panel extension, where the original exhasut hole was, to mirror what the right side looks like.

Dang. I'd like to see it from other angles. I have the same engine cover and Fuchs, but keep kicking around the idea of IROC bumpers. The fact that it has a sweet muffler helps.

Thanks JR, I think if I get the complete valence from rarelyl8 that will solve my problem.

Guy's, I might just remove the valence and leave it be... I found this picture of a SC with no lower valence. I think I can get use to that set up until I buy an aftermarket one to fill with holes! I don't want to modify my factory valence... RSR muffler on its way!!

Got it on! I cut the center valence, muffler fits perfect. I'm glad I did this swap, this muffler sounds awesome with my SSI's! Only thing to do is touch up the valence with touch up paint.

Your license plate sticker is expired......

Just watch your ankles when walking around the car. Those tailpipes look as dangerous as the tow hooks on my racecar that I constantly whack myself on!

I did this on my car when I got a GT3 style box. I bought a used valance and cut the right hand end off it after some measuring. I then welded it onto the left hand side of my existing one, the shape, radius etc is perfect and once painted it looks like a factory fit. Only thing left to do was cut out a bit of the centre section for the new pipes.

Easy!

Ian
