How to remove fan
How to remove fan? I have removed the bolt in front and the belt. What more has to be loosened to remove the fan completely?

A funny thing about this cars is that even the most simple tasks can become a B. it's pretty hard to separate the fan from the alternator, be careful what you use to remove it, you don't want to damage it.
Actually I have never taken my fan out without the alternator, always together and then I separate those, using gravity while tapping gently in the spindle with a rubber mallet. Take care

Get a 6mm tap and tap out two of the holes in the fan 180 deg apart. Thread into the tapped holes 2 6mm bolts maybe 2 inches long. Tighten the bolts evenly, paying attention to where the bolt contacts the alternator and the fan will pop right off.

Mine was easier although I had removed the entire alternator. You might try some penetrating oil. There is a woodruff key on the shaft, so be careful if you do remove the fan in the car, that the key doesn't drop somewhere.
There is a tech article here on removing the alternator, but the fan removal is just given lip service. If you do decide to remove the entire fan/alt housing, be careful with the wires in the rear as their insulation is old and can easily be hurt. I then used the John Walker method for separation by rapping the housing on rag covered wood / with the fan down. If I recall, the fan came off first with a little more work for the alternator.

I used a three jawed puller. First you must lift the fan housing up at an angle to allow space to fit the puller, then the fan pops loose with a couple of turns on the center bolt pushing against the pulley/alternator shaft. The three jaws fit on the central hub of the fan, between the fan blades. The alternator is left within the housing and can then either be removed or left until the fan is refitted.

When I pulled my alt. the fan basically fell off the spindle.

Get a piece if 6 inch plastic pipe about a foot long. Put foam or towels inside pipe. Hold alt and fan above pipe, with alt facing down. Drop fan and alternator into pipe. Make sure fan blades do not hit edge of pipe viola! Alternator falls into pipe fan stays on top. Make sure the edge of fan hits the edge of pipe so you do not break the blades.

After reading your post. Make sure you disconnect the battery. After you loosen the clamp. Pull assembly out. You will have to remove the nuts that hold the plastic air deflector. Note how it is insattled before you remove it. Slide deflector away from the alternator, get a pen, mark how the wires are installed on the alternator posts. Remove alternator wires held on by 10mm and 8 mm nuts I believe. Remove alternator and fan. Do not pound on the ends of the bolts to remove the fan from the alternator. Let gravity work for you. Get 2 2x4's, place on top of a piece of foam or a bunch of towels. Hold fan shroud and fan above wood with fan blades facing down. Position wood so the edge if the wood hits edge of shroud. Drop assembly. The fan will come off. Use Method described above to remove fan blade from alt shaft.

John Walker's procedure works best, drop the edge of the fan (carefully) on a 4x4 block on the ground, rotate it and repeat till it drops out. no tools needed.

Thank you for tips, I don't want to remove the alt and everything, so I want to try the one with the 6 mm tap ...
