I'd be curious if it would be a) possible today and b) at what what cost to modify a standard 2.0 alu case to 911R (901/22) specs. If I remember right, those engines turned out 210hp and used a standard 901 tranny (at least one even used a sports).

My stock 71E with 2.2E MFI engine was a hoot..............when i sold it i was sad..Now I have a hot rod 73 w/3.2 (and one or two other mods)....................I am not sad anymore. different car entirely....but the 3.2 in a light car, just works.
regards, Al

Great decision! I will always miss the alto soprano song of my 69 911 S, but I've got the lower end grunt and high speed of slightly more modern powerplants in my slightly more modern cars. IMHO money spent of mods just never comes back and each era seems to have its own advantages and personalities. What I really like about the smaller, high revving engines is that I can have a lot more fun while getting into trouble that won't hurt so much as if I was in a car with insane power. I don't think any car has provided more fun that that 69 911 S except maybe for the 1958 1300 cc Alfa Veloce I drove daily between 4,000 and 7,000 Rpms on the street except when I thought I smelled the men in blue. Even if my scent failed me, the offense was rather minor. Currently thinking about a liter + motorcycle powered lightweight special.
