Dropping 3.2 G50. What to do while "in there"

I'm dropping my engine to do the fuel lines. pelican recommends a replacing a few seals while access is easy. What else should I consider while the engine is down?

get rid of the G-50 - it is heavy and shifts too fast - this deprives you of the true Porsche experience that a 915 approximates

also clean the engine esp. the tops of the fins & check the sound pad for integrity; consider replacing rear susp. bushings

and the fuel lines if they haven't been replaced. Second on bushings, much easier to get to with engine/transmission out.

Update the clutch fork shaft bushings if they have not been done. Check rear main seal and gearbox main shaft seal.

updated tube and throw out bearing,
already mentioned - fork bushing kit
if you have a rubber clutch, replace with steel spring type
replace senders at the front of the engine
consider replacing 3rd cyl temp. sensor, if it is old

Check all the rubber hoses for cracks and hardening. I discovered that the fairly hard breather lines are actually supposed to be pretty soft when the end of one cracked off while trying to reattach it. The only time replacing them will be easy is when the engine is out.

You can get the fuel hoses replaced at any competent hydraulic hose shop. I carried my hoses into Mesa Hose in Costa Mesa and the guy behind the counter glanced at me standing behind the guy he was helping and said, "Porsche fuel hoses. Throw them in this bin." I guess he has seen a few...

For the fuel hoses the normal route is to have them replaced with stainless braid but the smart money is on stainless braid with an outer rubber sheath. Doesn't look as cool but bare stainless braid is like a saw blade and will abrade through most anything.

If the engine hasn't been running rock solid smooth you might go and replace the intake manifold gaskets. (There are 12.) If you do that you will also want to replace the plastic spacers as they are hardened and will certainly crumble when you try and clean them.
