The enlarged ones have a muffler in there to keep the noise level about the same as with a cat. The straight pipes are louder.

Possibly a design (larger tube) closer to the European cat bypass? Inquiring minds want to know... I've got a straight and even found an old OEM cat housing gutted and hollow in the box of schtuff I got from the PO.

It's what used to be called a resonator muffler on N American cars - It just replaces the CAT; a pre muffler vs a straight pipe aka ->CAT Bypass

(In Europe they have lower CO₂ regulations than we do, hense this is why their earlier 911's didn't require a CAT)

Yes there are 2 versions of this cat bypass, one is the MKM32 Pre-Muffler and the other is MKM60 Cat Bypass. The premuffler is a muffler and the cat bypass is a pipe, difference of course is sound level.

After repacking the CV's and new boots, I installed the passenger side axle. Now on to the drivers side.

Nothing special, truck bed fork locks from Yakima that I attached with self tapping screws. Good sized ones. They are adequate for regular bikes but when I haul the moped, I also use cinched tie downs on the handle bars. 75 lbs of weight is pushing it.

I tend to take corners less rapido with bikes on the rack. A bungie cord holds the rear wheel steady.

I extracted the last of the AC hoses, relays and wires.

Next to go is this wiring madness, which is some kind of keyless start/alarm abomination.

Finally got the new setup installed. Lots of open space under the bumper.
Next step is to get the new WBO2 gauge connected and installed.

Fabspeed airbox cover. I added the mesh to both ends. No performance expectations.

Ordered up a new set of seat-skins for my 1976 targa.

After removing the seats from the car I found this stuck to the sound deadening.

The car came from S.Cal, maybe it should have been a 1976 S and not a D!

Not the 1st kool "numbers" thing with this "new to me" 76.
When I got the title from the prior owner it had been issued on my birthdate.
And...the PDI date in the manual was my birth date in 1976 ( a young lad of 13)
