On Thursday night, I picked-up my 1984 Carrera from the shop after having a Wevo shifter and PSJ coupler installed. I then took my "new" car for my first extended drive. The Wevo shifter and coupler made a huge difference.
Over the weekend, I undertook my first self-repairs to this car. I installed the JWest headlamp relay, and replaced the AC relay with a fused relay, as well as replacing the old fuses. Next weekend, I'll be replacing the high - low beams stalk. |

I replaced my Odyssey battery after it died, tested it with a multi meter and got 0.05v
![]() Installed the new one went to start the car up and noticed the glove box light was on ![]() I had killed it myself leaving the thing ajar after grabbing some stuff out of it after a drive the other weekend. Note to self turn off the glove box light switch and only turn it on when you need it. Now have the original on a reconditioning charge at my mates workshop to see if it is salvageable. Oh well if it is able to be saved I have a spare to loan anyone else stupid enough to do the same thing. Cheers Al ![]()

Sending off for much needed repairs
Last fall, on what turned out to be the last drive of the year, I passed a truck on the highway. After passing, I attemped to shift back into 5th, but the transmission was stuck in 4th. I managed to get back home by running a couple of stop signs and carefully selecting my route to avoid stop lights. Once parked my 911 just sat there. Occasionally, I would sit in it and wiggle the shifter to see if it might have miraculously come loose. No luck. So yesterday my car got picked up for a trip to the shop. As you can see in the background, it's not really the right weather to drive around in yet, but hopefully the roads will have cleared by the time the transmission is rebuilt.

Needed to hang a ladder and wanted to clean under her for the first time in a long while, so I skinned her up and pushed her outside. Got me motivated to pull a bit more of the interior and get the left fender off.
Any tips or threads I can get pointed towards for help removing the dash in a '77? ![]() ![]() She's so tiny next to my truck. ![]() and of course, the ladder. ![]() Last edited by nIkbot; 04-10-2013 at 01:49 PM.. Reason: holy giant img's batman! |

Yesterday I pulled the speedometer drive out. The project was to find a tranny fluid leak, which I'm pretty sure I have.
Somehow though, I ended up like this today... ![]() In the back of mind was a project, way down the road, to strip the red paint off the faux 'S' shroud and go back to black. For some reason I started doing that today. The red shroud used to look pretty good. The unfriendly atmosphere in the engine compartment has taken a toll though. The red paint was bubbling and a past oil leak had pretty much coated everything with oil and dirt. A mere 6 years ago... ![]() I spent about 4 hours stripping paint and it looks okay now.

Put in the Jwest relays, installed a new turn signal switch, and fused the dash lights on my newly acquired '87 Carrera. Breathed a sigh of relief when I found no burnt wires anywhere in the dash! - Matt

Did an oil change, 11 quarts of Brad Penn, and an OC-54, leak check, all good! On a side note, filed in small claims court for the rear ender, since Geico decided that they didn't want to play. Official game is on!

Brakes felt a little soft on the 70 so my son and I bled them. Sure enough a lot of air in the right rear. Nice and firm now.

Lapkritis - rears are not too bad either. Airfilter box cover has to come out and the other side has the double. Drove me crazy carrying a piece of wood trim to prop the lids on a Porsche!
