Most of the right side applied. My body work guy, Kaj, can really do some black magic, including applying new tin...

Sooo. Many people go to equally great lengths to remove rain gutters for the clean look.

Why are you doing the opposite?

...inquiring minds...

I wanted a 1972 911S. And a resonable way to get hold of one, was to buy one transformed into a G-model on the half way of being turned into a RUF Yellow Bird with the "clean" look. I enjoyed driving it for four years, but I always wanted to get it back to being an F-model - in the form of a 1972 911 ST WITH rain gutters, because it looks that way. I guess that is the easy (but expensive) answer...

No explanation needed. It's your car, you are creating your dream car and doing a fantastic job...I love to see this kind of work!

He sure is.

I was simply wondering the thought process...details matter and I was wondering why this detail.

I am glad you asked. The thought is, that the car should get back to being "original" and the look without the gutters will always point the other way...

The fact that I am turning it into an ST-clone and THE original S it was born, does not affect that thought in my mind.

AND (even though I am not planing to sell) this should make it easier to sell one day.

What's next on the (long) list of things to do in the car? Do you have a time deadline as to when you would like to have the car on road by?

Well, I am looking at these GRP doors: 911 Lightweight Doors GRP

And to go with them and for general safety - a roll cage also.

New suspension bushings from Rebel Racing, new hollow torsion bars from Sway Away, new anti roll bars from Tarrett, 930 brakes, new master cylinder etc. most of it on shelf, some of it on it's way.

I HOPE to be roling in late August, early September, but that is just a hope...

Time for a little update:

Right side is almost done. Only the gutter on the A-piller is missing. Two thirds of the way is ready for paint:

Gutter welded all the way to the A-piller and getting prepped:

I ordered a pair of lightweight doors in GRP.

For that and for general safety, I got hold of a roll cage. It is a few years old, painted red, but never installed. It is a really nice Heigo FIA approved cage. My plan is to make it black. Here are som pictures of a test fit:

Thank you :)

Heigo is just a superb quality and I am really glad to have on in my car!

Danish Dynamite 07-10-2013 08:49 AM

Now the reinforcements for the cage are done. I am happy with the result!

My light weight doors arrived! The seller claimed they should be state of the art and I have to agree. They are really nice! The quality is very high and they are light. I am exited about the project of getting the hinges on...
