DIY - How to remove/install dashboard and rear bumper on an 86
I acquired a few month's ago a decent dash and a euro bumper and need help on how to remove/install dashboard and rear bumper on my 86.
I. Dashboard - How many bolts does it have to take out the dashboard? What are the parts needed to take out to access these bolts (e.g. gauges, access the front trunk). II. Rear bumper - Aside from the side bolts hidden beneath the bellows and the bumper shock bolts hidden under the impact strips are there other bolts that I need to look for to remove the rear bumper? Your inputs/tips/tricks will be highly appreciated. Thanks

dashboard will require the windshield first, i think, they changed it in the later years. don't forget the wiring in the rear bumper other than that pretty strate forward

One piece defroster vent across the front or 2 defroster vents is the determining factor. (I think)
if one piece, winshield can stay in. (Again, I think)

You'll need to disconnect the lights in the bumperettes. Unbolt them first from the inside then pull apart the connectors. Bumper is pretty straightforward. I had to wiggle the bolts from the rubber accordion trim pieces on the side. That was the only tricky part.

There is no need (or benefit) to remove the windshield on an '86 or later 911 to replace the dash.
More detailed instructions here. Tim |

Tested the illumination of the license plate lights since the euro pads are far apart from the US pads. Looks like my plates are still readable, right? Do I need to upgrade and try some bolts with LED?

Absolutely awesome.
I have all the parts for my euro bumper conversion - except the rub strips that include the small rear reflectors. I have been looking everywhere for those. I am jealous!! Nice work!!

Before I install the dashboard I bought a few months ago, I noticed there were some screw studs and plastic snap clips missing.
Based on the photo, I wanted to know more or less how many screw/studs (999-591-344-02-OEM), plastic snap clip (999-591-310-40-OEM) and receptor do I need to order from the host. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks good. LEDs would probably be better to light up the area but will definitely not feel period correct. Personally I would go LED.
