Window rattle, important part?

My new to me 86 has a window or door rattle. I took the door panel off and when shaking it does not rattle. I did find this in the bottom of the door and think it may be important, but can't find out what it is. What does it do, can it be replaced, help.
Thanks

Oh my, that is off of your window regulator coil/spring, without that you will most likely burn out your motor.

Yep. Our host sells an improved replacement IIRC.

There is an annoying rattle in both sides of my '86. Happens only when my windows are somewhere between full up and full down. It's an irritating jingling sound. I found the fix after I had been into and buttoned up my doors twice for other things and I've been simply too lazy to tear back into the doors. Ends of the regulator has plastic wheels that roll in a track just below window glass. Some folks go so far as to squeeze the channels tighter and others just apply heavy grease. -J

You have the dreaded window regulator pivot pin failure. There are aftermarket replacement parts available. Beware, there are four different versions depending on what side the window is on and some size variations. Here's an old post with some good links in it.

Window Regulator

EDIT: here's the parts page for the pivots

mine were rattling from the door handle rods having had their little rubber isolators come loose (among other things).

It's the pin that holds the center of the assist spring.

That is most likely why the window goes up slowly! I guess everything has to come out of the door to fix it. Winter project.
Thanks
