Mysterious part found in engine bay?

Can you tell me what this is? Where it came from? What purpose does it serve?
I found it down in the bottom of the engine bay on my 1981 911 SC Targa on the left side laying on the sheet medal by the ass end of the motor...

Is that thing plastic or metal? Is it magnetic?

It's a flattened journal bearing - well half of one. Intermediate shaft?

See heat marks on left and oil holes in center.

Looks like the guide part of a hose clamp or t-bolt clamp

Metal band that holds it in place?

I blew it up a little more. What I thought was heat stress markings is just a hole for a fastener..

Dennis,

It so happened that yesterday while I was assembling the CIS bench tester, this 'mysterious part' fell on the floor. Had this happened several weeks ago, I would not remember it!!!!!
