Ducktail Quality question
Does anyone have any experience with the fiberglass ducktail offered by Automotion/Ecklers (previously Performance Products) as far as fitment and all around satisfaction with it? Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Banned but not out, yet..

The response, or lack thereof should tell you something. But I am sure there is some one out there that bought one.
Mine as well as many others purchase from Getty Design |

I would have a look at Sanjay (correct me if that's the wrong user) here on the boards. He grafts the duck onto your existing deck lid.

Although my response is unrelated to a duck tail - I did have a questionable experience with Automotion. I purchased about $1100 worth of items and after they charged my card, they informed me that most of the items were back ordered. I was ok with this but after about 3 months I sent an e-mail demanding a refund for the items that had not shipped. They suddenly had my Dansk Muffler in stock and shipped the following day. However, the box was well-dented and looked very-used. The muffler looked brand new but I know you can do wonders with paint.
That is my only experience with Automotion but it was bad enough to look elsewhere for parts in the future. |

If I were to do it again I would go straight to Sonjay. I have no affiliation just painfully aware of how much I have invested in that lid in order to get the fit and finish of the rest of the car.

Thanks Pelicans for the very helpful info. I am considering Sonjay because of the great reputation but since my car is a dedicated track car I am thinking about weight savings benefit of an all fiberglass tail. I currently have an iroc tail on it which is all fiberglass and I am hoping not to add weight. It's a widebody conversion 3.6, cams, headers, straight exhaust, Steve Wong race chip, and I'm still lightening it. Consequently my questions regarding fiberglass tails. Pelicans rule.

I was amazed at how light my MAShaw fenders and duck tail were compared to some others
Duck tail is strong and fits right first time |

the beauty of fiberglass is that if the fit is not perfect you can modify it easily including adding material to it.

I bought a ducktail from Perf Products about 10 years ago. I had it installed, fitted and painted by a body shop. The initial fit was less than perfect. The shop said they had to fill/lay more fiberglass where the gap was too wide and sand off where the gap was too narrow. I'm pretty happy with it now but it isn't concours material by any means. The duck was very cheap in comparison to MAShaw so you get what you pay for.
