When I bought the car the AC was "ok" but a leaking compressor. It was replaced under warranty, I've evacuate the system twice, holds vacuum over night, fill with R134 and cant get vent temps below 79 deg. Low side pressure at 25-32 psi and high side around 250-320 psi from idle to 2k rpm.

Screw it! I can't enjoy the car in these Houston temps! I guess new rims are off the list and a Griffiths make over is due. But I'm not gonna piece meal it, new front and rear condensers, new evaporator, barrier hoses, Hurricane motor, and possibly rear fender shell condense kit.

Skip the new rear condenser unless yours has a hole in it. Instead, buy the fender-mounted one(s). Get it all from Griff, install it all at once.

Griffith system is great...I am in Chicago returning tomorrow back home to Toronto Canada.
This is the first long trip test to the system i installed last winter...
If you are to install the system yourself, take your time and follow charley's instructions to the letter...
If you are mrchanically inclined it will take you approx 18 hours...I did it in 30...including the variable speed fan switch.

Does skipping the rear condenser mean buying one fender-mounted unit for same performance, or does it take both??

At my house right now, thermometer says 98. Says high today was 104, with heat index of 113.

Get all the condenser you can get. It's one of the weak points of these cars. Mike Callas out at Rennsport says that they didn't make decent A/C on these cars until the 993.

PS - I've got a system in my car that is 60% Rennaire and 40% Griffiths. If I had a do over, I'd go 100% Griffiths. Rennaire was cheaper, but, all of the Griffiths components I added made a huge difference: Griff Front Condenser, Griff Hurricane fan, Griff variable fan switch, Griff Center vent replacement.

It's obvious Griff knows his business. Rennaire customer service is poor. Even though I'm in Houston, it took them 8 weeks to ship my system to me. Seriously.

Mr. Kid, I can take a look at the engagement on this site and their website,stacked with knowledge and info to know I will go to Griffiths.

I'm gonna start stripping her this week (the car - of the AC) to make the install go quicker.

its hot here in SC too. its only about 2 maybe 3 months that are unbearable so i am taking the time to put it on stands and fix some of the little things that need attention. check my thread in the 930 forum called my to do list.

BTW, my 930 has AC although i have not tried it. my 88 325is has great AC so i drive it. plus, i dont like to leave the 930 out when it is extremely hot out.

I know this thread has no technical merit, but I have proven to myself that the non barrier hoses can hold a vacuum for 24 hours and the stock evaporator is tiny and needs more capacity. How anyone can get a 50 degree variation from ambient in a stock system is beyond me.

As a fellow woodlandite I am sympathetic. I haven't had working air in,.....,....... well ever. I just don't drive it in the summer I am contemplating a complete ac makeover soon as well

Hmmm, try reducing the refrigerant 20%.

Buddy had same issues when he filled his newly converted R134 in his 3.2, we found reducing the refrigerant by 20% did the trick.

I use the ES12a in my R12 system, it works with R134 as well. Been using it for the past 5 years in my poopy oem system, still get complaints from wifey to turn the ac off here come the flames...

SA... after reducing refrig as Draco suggests, you might want to check and see if your front condensor blower is blowing. And... seal the area around the rear condensor and seal the rear lid to the car (to increase airflow over the rear condensor.)
